ONS OPEN * Welcome * Trump for the final – Open Court

Forgive us if we become political …

The last time Donald Trump decided that he had to visit the US Open, for the quarterfinals between Serena and Venus Williams in 2015, he was shown on a switch during the third set and received some great anger.

And he was not even president (for the first time). He had announced that he would run in the 2016 elections and was greeted by colleague New Yorker John Mcenroe in his box.

(Yes, that is P. Diddy in his box on the main photo).

You would not expect that this time will be much different. Maybe worse; People are … much less civilized in public spaces than they were even ten years ago. And Trump’s colleague New Yorkers saw his Grifty himself a Looooooong time ago.

(Pretty sure that I was the first to drop the news on Twitter, although I did not include the information about Rolex because at the time I was worried about burning my source).

This is not UFC, to say the least.

The Clip ESPN posted almost exactly ten years ago Trump is booed … no longer functions.

But someone has found it; The ESPN broadcasters were a bit dizzy about it.

This time, however, the USTA guidelines are that the broadcasters should not show any reaction (presumably negative) about the presence of Trump.

They were told that they should not even be mentioned which company had expanded the invitation to him; They were told earlier that they just had to call it a “sponsor’s suite” instead of mentioning that it was their huge sponsor, Rolex, who had extended the invitation.

They all agreed; You know they would do that. Difficult to say whether that will apply to the broadcasters of all over the world who were in New York to express the final of the men’s singles.

During the show for the competition, host Chris McKendry.

A small report by Jeremy Schapp outlined the traffic grans around the site and explained the delayed start. Back to McKendry, who fades Blithely: “Traffic. It’s a New York thing”.

The Honor Guard ceremonies were visibly shortened, to show Trump on the big screen while unrising the flag and singing the national anthem, in the hope – only somewhat successful, ultimately – that every reaction would be more damped by people who actually respect the flag and the Volkslied.

(He still does not know, like Mrs. Bondi on his right, that you don’t … the national anthem greetings. You put your hand on your heart. He always does this).

3:17 pm – People who are still in line to come in.

The fans released him again later.

But after a break – probably a NOSH – he was back before the end. And signed and threw some Maga hats that probably nobody asked.

In the end, the start time … 2:49 PM for a start of 2 p.m., with large parts of empty seats and thousands of very irritated people outside. But beyond the considerable discomfort for everyone, and the capitulation of the broadcasters, it was not such a huge deal.

However, going out must have been a treat.

Trump was in the Rolex Suite, on their invitation. That they would do this and add extra delay and distraction for Sinner and Alcaraz – both Rolex “testimonials” – do you tell that they have a financial motivation to do this – perhaps work on him to illuminate the rates on their products?

Also, considering what time this came, you would expect that they had their large private lodge full of earlier invitations. Given the entourage that is always accompanied by Trump, did they have to kick some well -to -do customers out?

All this seems to have been put together at the last minute, making it a nightmare on the security side. The secret service has been on site for several days.

The air space around the arrival of a president is limited for a long period before and after his arrival (assuming that he will pass through the air).

And the discomfort for the people who work on the site, most of whom are three weeks and are pretty tired at the moment, are considerable.

(He could have theoretically been the year in the past decade. That he chose this year – without Americans playing in the final – is of course … on time).

It took until Friday evening before the written press to get guidelines, but the broadcasters received information for this.

A warning – only half an hour before the planned at 2 p.m.

-If they came in a shuttle bus, they had to be in a bus later at the latest … 8 hours. And there would be no buses after 9.30 am

– For those who went to the airport to leave immediately after the final, they were not allowed to bring baggage of bags on the site or the employment building on Sunday morning to the employment building. So they should have a runner meet outside the site and have the luggage stored in a parking lot.

– The only thing they were allowed to bring in today was their phone.

There were extra guidelines for the written press.

– Looking for the relatively small bag to get on the site would be improved, more at the TSA level.

– All the necessary equipment that was needed on Sundays had to be on the site on Saturday evening at 10 p.m. and spend the night in a locker.

– All media members had to leave Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday at 11 p.m.

– Media would “expect some delays in public spaces that can be briefly limited or can be frozen zones at certain times of the competition”.

There are no indications that the fans got a lot in the way of a head. Because the line to get to the stadium was endless. And probably the line was to get from the parkway and on the site, also (it’s bad at the best times).

In the defense of the Orange Felon he has a long history with tennis. ((More details about this here).

He even pretended to play.

There is a good chance that his play partners were so respectful on the tennis court when they are currently on the golf course – ie generously with their line calls.

(I mean, Gauff and Swiatek would probably endorse that forehand).

You would expect that he saved some “club championship tennis trophies” in Mar-A-Lago somewhere.

For decades, his company had the Luxe Suite directly to the right of the main broadcast platform in the stadium, usually used by CBS in those days.

As soon as Trump was chosen for the first time, they gave up the box.

It was undoubtedly completely separate from the reception that he received the last time he was there in 2015.

You wonder if the current owners of the box (below) were concerned that he would call “presidential privilege” to return to his old box for Auld Lang Syne.
