It seems almost unbelievable to write this, but the image left came from the Czech Extrators season game between Kladno and Litvínov, where the 53-year-old Jaromir Jagr was back in action. The fact that JAGR is still playing for his youth team is pretty incredible, but this is a man who could have retired a long time ago with professional hockey. There is not much else that he can win, nor many more records that he can break, but the passion still has to burn in JAGR when he looks to make the Kladno selection. How many people can say that they cheer for a 53-year-old winger to make the team without adding “Beer League” to the question?
There is not much to show from the game, because JAGR picked up one assist while he was on the power play when he set up Martin Procházka with a cross-create pass, but me Highlights found on this webpage. The following is of video that Bohumil Kučera took during the game.
When the dust was established on this game, Kladno HC Verva Litvínov had lowered a 3-2 score. What should be noted is that Kladno has played many of their younger players and head coach David čermák noticed how the piece was hit, mentioning Denik.cz Sports editor Rudolf Muzika, “We have turned on many young boys and the game was restless, which is normal at the start of the season.”
It should be noted that Jaromir Jagr does not have no contract with Kladno at the moment, so he literally puts his body at stake when he hopes to make the team. If you remember, Czech businessman Tomáš Drastil bought 80% of the Kladno Knights last January and he promised to bring more of the younger hockey players from Czech teams around Kladno to the Knights. Although there are a number of younger players with Kladno in the preseason, it will be interesting to see if the Drastil and sports manager Tomáš Plaanec will continue as soon as the Czech Extriga season starts in September.
Assuming they do that, the average age of Kladno will certainly fall, but it will be interesting to see how much his way can play to the selection. There are clearly no guarantees, because he is no longer the majority of the club, but 2000 people appear before a pointless prescription game is never a bad thing. It cannot be claimed that Jagr is not a draw, even though it is 53 years old, so hanging him for his leadership, his experience, his hockey wisdom and knowledge, and because he places fans in stands, may not be a bad idea for Kladno to consider … assuming that Jagr wants to play.
Based on the video above, he clearly still has the hands and the vision needed to play at a high level. He does not have the speed he ever did, nor will he drag a defender with him while he is driving it, but Jaromir Jagr looks like he will be a solid player in the Extriga at 53.
That is something I never expected to write at the beginning of August.
Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
