Costs for childcare to grow. Takes access declining. But small companies are not too worried about theImpact on business.
The National Federation of Independent Business Recently released The four -year report on the most urgent problems for owners of small companies in the US for the first time, asked about “costs and availability of childcare”, which owners were ranked as their 66th most urgent concern of the 75 rated.
Moreover, only 7% of the owners of small companies considered the problem as ‘critical’ and 40% did not consider it a problem at all.
This can be surprising, given that the costs of childcare have been increased 32% For American households from 2019 to 2023, and the proportion of parents without access to childcare grew from 17.7% at the end of 2023 to 22.2%in the first months of 2024.
But as Holly Wade, executive director of the NFIB Research Center, says, the results suggest that the problem is currently relatively limited, at least in the eyes of business owners: “For some employers, they can easily work on childcare problems, meet planning conflicts – [so it doesn’t rise] To the level of problems, for example, such as the costs of health insurance. ”
In the NFIB report, the costs of health insurance policies were indeed at the top of the concerns of small owners, such as since 1986. The costs of deliveries and supplies, economic uncertainty and federal taxes this year included top issues for owners.
Plus, if companies have a “younger demography of employees or an industry with a higher turnover [or] Seasonal work, “Problems for childcare may not be a pain for them at all, Wade adds.
However, other recent reports still indicate that this pressure influences the workforce. 29% of the work switches identified a lack of childcare benefits as their most important motivation in the search for another job, according to a 2024 Report from Care.com. Women’s participation is now lagging Compared to pre-Pandemic levels and taking care of “the house or the family” is the Primary reason Mothers don’t work, according to the Pew Research Center.
And as Inc. previously reportedThere are still owners of small companies that already believe that a lack of childcare negatively influences their business-even if it might not be their greatest care.
