ONE Fight Night 40 revs up with two more exciting tilts

ONE Championship continues to build an action-packed card ONE Fight Night 40: Buntan vs. Hemetsberger II with the addition of two exciting matchups scheduled for the US primetime event on Friday, February 13 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Filipino veteran Danny “The King” Kingad will return to action against China’s Hu Yong in a flyweight MMA clash as two competitors look to end their losing streaks and reignite their divisional ambitions.

The US primetime event, which will air live on Amazon’s Prime Video, will also spotlight Brazilian jiu-jitsu talent as Fabricio “Hokage” Andrey takes on 2025 IBJJF Black Belt World Champion Joao Mendes in a featherweight submission match.

Filipino veteran Danny Kingad is seeking his first win since 2023 at ONE Fight Night 40

Shoes brings a career record of 15-5 with 11 promotional wins in this pivotal crossroads bout at ONE Fight Night 40. The 30-year-old Filipino contender looks to bounce back from tough losses to reigning division champion Yuya Wakamatsu and former longtime titleholder Adriano Moraes.

In addition to Wakamatsu and Moraes, Kingad, a former ONE Flyweight MMA world title challenger, has competed against the absolute best in the sport. In fact, one of his career highlights includes a gutsy performance against the greatest MMA fighter of all time, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, demonstrating his ability to compete with top talent.

A win over Hu at ONE Fight Night 40 would silence critics while reigniting his championship aspirations in a division with numerous dangerous competitors. The 29-year-old Chinese fighter enters the fight with a 13-7 record and eight promotional wins. But like Kingad, back-to-back defeats have also stalled his divisional momentum.

To enter the world title conversation in 2026, Hu will have to find a way to beat the Philippine powerhouse and gather some momentum.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu luminaries collide in a wrestling show

Andrey, 25, brings his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Cup credentials and impressive 103 career victories to this featherweight submission wrestling match at ONE Fight Night 40. The Brazilian standout made his promotional debut in 2025 and immediately made an impact with back-to-back unanimous decision victories over Ashley Williams and Eduardo Granzotto, establishing himself as a serious contender in ONE Championship’s burgeoning wrestling ranks.

His technical precision and methodical approach have proven effective against quality opposition during his perfect promotional start. The nickname “Hokage” reflects his status among the next generation of stars of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as they seek to dominate on the world stage.

Mendes faces a huge challenge as the 28-year-old Brazilian becomes the IBJJF Black Belt World Champion in 2025, adding championship momentum to his highly anticipated promotional debut. The veteran grappler will look to make an immediate statement by defeating an established ONE Championship competitor in his first appearance.

A win for Andrey at ONE Fight Night 40 would extend his perfect promotional record to three straight wins while cementing his status among the top contenders in featherweight submission wrestling. For Mendes, a debut win over a proven ONE Championship competitor would immediately herald his arrival as a championship-caliber athlete.

The ONE Fight Night 40 card looks stacked so far

Only a few matches have been announced for ONE Fight Night 40, but the lineup looks promising so far.

The main act of the show is a rematch of the world title for gold. After defeating Jackie Buntan for the vacant ONE Women’s Strawweight Muay Thai World Title in September, Stella Hemetsberger will now challenge the Filipino-American for her kickboxing belt.

Also, Hawaii’s Adrian Lee returns to take on Japan’s Shozo Isojima in a lightweight MMA bout. Both men are coming off tough losses to ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling World Champion Tye Ruotolo, so it will be interesting to see how each man responds to adversity.

ONE Fight Night 40 will air live on Prime Video on Friday, February 13. The action starts at 9pm ET/6pm PT. The event is free for all Amazon Prime subscribers in the US and Canada.
