One-day cup Semi-final: Hampshire v Surrey-a Hampshire robbery

Hampshire pulled off the robbery of the decade and won their semi-final against Surrey through four wickets despite the fact that he was behind the DLS PAR score for the vast majority of the Run-Chase.

Brewing rain, fading light and a pitch that finally resembled the Somme, Georgia Adams and Mary Taylor shared a winning 104-run partnership that produced their team in Sunday’s final against Lancashire.

The undefeated century of Adams will win all compliments, but the more remarkable effort was from Hampshire’s no. 8 Taylor, who hit a Maiden list a fifty list (her previous highest list was only 21), drive, flicker and pull.

It is crucial that she reached a success rate of 100, so that by the time she was hit on the elbow by a ball from Alice Monaghan who was raised on her, Hampshire was at the rough distance of their target:

“The physio said, do you want painkillers? I said no, let’s take,” She told Cickether. “I was in the zone and I did not want to disturb it in any way. I would probably have beaten my arm that fell off!”

Taylor had joined the battle with Hampshire Six Wickets Down and still required 102 to win: Surrey would have the feeling that they were in the Hampshire “Tail”. But Adams and Taylor were able to gradually fold down the required runs, first to occur DLS and when it became clear that the referees would see them until the end, some May-Erin to overhaul their Mammoet 288-run target.

Hypocaust points out that various other Recordrun chases have been reached this season in 50-over ladies cricket:

That was the sixth highest successful women’s list, a run -pursuit in England. In a remarkable season that has fully transformed the concept of a 3 -point -target, five of the top six were highest this year in Metro Bank League 1.

Perhaps the most important difference is that the other four record-breaking Run-Achtervolgingen from 2025 took place in the midst of a baking and now disappeared. Today’s effort from Hampshire was achieved despite, not because of the prevailing circumstances.

‘I was a bit cold [coming out to bat]” Taylor said. A year [Adams] Said: “Play straight and press the viewing screen, press the holes and we will try to turn two.” That turned out to be quite difficult when the mud started to hide our shoes. “

Surrey had chosen to hit first after winning the throw, despite the weather forecast – a choice that surprised everyone, against the general cricket wisdom that if the rain is predicted, it is always better to chase and know exactly what you have to do to stay ahead of DLS.

Today, however, this wisdom does not fully apply, due to a very unfortunate issue with the electronic score card, which flickered over from the Hampshire Chase in the first and never returned. The slogan of the energy company Utilita “Life With Power”, which adorns the scoreboard, appeared a brilliant trolling exercise at the expense of the hosts.

Ultimately, the club found a temporary solution in the form of the old scoreboard above the Cubbygat of the grounds:

Ten overs in, Hampshire had reached 73-2 precisions equal to DLS. That was largely due to Freya Kemp, who built up a 26-ball fifty in the 11th, after limiting seven four and two Sixes-Bijna all between Midwicket and Lang.

But when Kemp waved, missed and bent by Kalea Moore, the DLS par suddenly took a flying jump. It took another one when Abi Norgrove sent a catch directly in the hands of short midwicket; Seconds later, the referees pulled the players off the field with Hampshire at 103-4, 20 points behind DLS Par.

It seemed that it would all be over … but the shower was short and 20 minutes later the referees brought the players back.

Hampshire then lost Nancy Harman in the 20th bone for Phoebe Franklin, and seemed to fall even further behind DLS, intriguing, saw Win-Her the situation differently, so Hampshire brought a 63% chance to win:

At this point I was so disillusioned with our WinCalculator that I suggested that we would rename it, put-it-in-the-bin-Hert. How wrong I was!

As the time tapped away and the pursuit of unthinkable to possible to tackle, rattled around the ground. Everyone’s overwhelming feeling when Adams scored the winning points, only two overs to bring her hundred, was therefore enlightenment – and knew that the real job has not yet been done. “I try to stay level because we have to play the final so far,” Taylor admitted.

Whatever happens on Sunday, this semi -final will live in memory for a long time.
