On the Break: Namibia’s Moses Fredericks makes his mark

Moses Fredericks (#8) takes his chance in the Day 1 match against Germany!

The pace was relentless, the shot clock brutal. Namibia’s Day 1 match against Germany revealed the intensity of 3×3 basketball. Namibia’s Moses Fredericks rose to the challenge, contesting drives and staying active on the edge.

“I enjoyed the game and had a lot of fun,” Moses said after the fight. Reflecting on his performance, he added: “I feel good about my defense.”

In 3×3, where a single steal can turn into an instant scoring opportunity, Moses’ anticipation and footwork were crucial. Namibia came out on top, 13–3. Speaking about his team’s chemistry, Moses said: “Even with the fast pace and physical play in 3×3, we worked well together. Everyone knew their role in substitutions, and that kept us competitive against strong opponents.”

From Hope Village to the world stage

As a student at Môreson Special School and resident of Hope Village, Moses built his athletic foundation in several sports: soccer, volleyball, floorball and basketball. His adaptability and willingness to take on new challenges make him a natural multi-sport athlete.

In a close match against Canada, Moses and his teammates came out on top and the Canadians finished 6-3.

Earlier this year, Moses traveled with the Brave Boys to Turin, Italy, for the Special Olympics World Winter Games as part of the Special Olympics Namibia national floorball team, where he gained valuable experience in international competitions and learned to thrive under high-pressure conditions. During the first days of training in Namibia, Moses and his teammates practiced with homemade equipment but still finished fourth – a remarkable achievement that inspired fans and showcased their skills.

Division 2 final: Namibia vs. Italy

On the final day of the 3×3 Basketball World Cup, Namibia faced Italy in the Division 2 final. Italy came out firing with crisp drives and precise ball movement. Namibia fought back with aggressive attacks, but Italy’s attack secured a 13 – 5 victory.

Never one to settle, Moses is already thinking about his next World Cup. “I want to shoot more because that’s my strong point,” he said, eyeing future international opportunities.
