In a tight betting race, Idealy, who had won his only two outings, was a heavy favorite but there was a dip in Voucher Queen.

Omnia started best from the mobile and retained the lead, but then beat a challenge from Oakden who was looking for the lead. Michael Smith on Omnia tried to take the field and again Oakden challenged for the front in vain.

In the meantime, Idealogy, running third, took the trail just behind the leader, while Voucher Queen was able to secure the only out and one back course.

Omnia finally managed to beat Oakden as Voucher Queen looked to struggle three wide before breaking in the crucial phase. Idealogy looked like it was going to do an inside run, but just as it looked dangerous, it locked the wheels and broke away.

It was left to Helpisfaraway and Magical Madge to give chase, but Omnia held on to win by two meters from the other two.

But there’s no doubt that Omnia fully deserved her win as she had to do all the work up front and still hang in there.

ALL DECEMBER 20 REPEAT

Omnia is raced and trained by her breeder Tyson Linke, who races the filly with his sister Tara-Shae. Tyson won the final of the Southern Cross for two-year-old fillies four years ago with Encipher, who went on to win the Eureka at Menangle in 2023.

Omnia is out of the New Zealand mare Consica (ContinentalMan) and won five races at Globe Derby in her career.

It was encouraging to see seven runners for the Final. South Australia has had difficulty running three-year-old trotters over the years and it is hoped that these runners and perhaps more will make it possible to host the South Australia Trotters Oaks and South Australian Trotters Derby next year. The ancient Trotters Derby has not been held for a few years due to a lack of registrations.

It was a great night for driver Michael Smith, who went on to win the next two races with Apieceoflou (Sweet Lou) and Neds Beach (Somebeachsomewhere).
