Olympic long shot? Tel Zach Hyman not yet out

Zach Hyman is one of the four Edmonton Oilers -Players invited To the Olympic orientation camp of Hockey Canada this month, member of Evan Bouchard, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor McDavid, who is already a lock for the selection. But unlike McDavid, Hyman comes to the camp as a long shot and recent injury developments can further make his business more difficult.

Hyman has been incredible since he came to the oilers. He developed immediate chemistry with McDavid, accentuated by an explosion of 54 goals in 2023-24. His ruthless energy, net-driving style and the ability to finish five-on-five and on the Power Play fits perfectly alongside the dynamic players of the NHL. Hyman has been advertised as the best free agency signed in the history of the oilers and is there for the best in the history of the NHL.

In a short Olympic tournament, chemistry is crucial, which is why Hyman with McDavid on paper would be logical. But the end of the 2024-25 season saw a disaster strike. Hyman was injured in the play -offs and moisture against a wrist injury that left him on the sidelines in the final of the Stanley Cup. He needed an operation out of season and there is a chance that he will not be ready for a training camp on time.

He also had a bit of a seasonal season in terms of target scores, which is why he was a surprising omission of the Tournament Roster from 2025 4 Nations. Hyman went on a target score after he was omitted, and proved that Canada had made a mistake when assessing what he could bring in the schedule.

Hyman’s complicated situation means that he is probably a long chance for Team Canada

With only 14 forward places available and 26 that attend the Olympic orientation camp, Hyman stands for a steep heavy battle to make the last cut. This would have been true, even if it is completely healthy. Because he is not and his try -out will be limited to what he can do in the regular season, he is on the outside and looks inside.

Zach Hyman Edmonton Oilers returns

However, if he can return healthy and start strong at the start of the regular season, he could still force himself in the conversation. His proven track record with McDavid gives him a unique lead – Canada can give priority to fame and chemistry when building the Olympic lines.

It is far from a guarantee, but Hyman’s invitation shows that he is still on the radar.
