The US men’s hockey team is back at the Olympics for the first time since 2014 with NHL stars in tow – so think Miracle on Ice meets fast slapshots (and hopefully less tears)! They are in Group C along with Latvia, Denmark and Germany, competing for a top spot for the knockout rounds.
This grid is stacked featuring NHL stars, built for speed, skill and just the right amount of chirp. It’s the first time NHL players have competed in the Olympics since 2014, and Team USA is going deep with offensive firepower and veteran leadership.

These guys bring goals, courage and potential for highlights:
- Auston Matthews – Captain, goal machine for the Maple Leafs

Goalkeepers (3)
These three between the pipes provide depth and stability:

Yes, they concede goals, but preferably only after rebounds and penalties.

X-Factor storylines on the roster
Brother and sister chemistry
For the first time in decades, the U.S. Olympic hockey team has done that two sets of brothers:
- Brady and Matthew Tkachuk
- Jack & Quinn Hughes
That means built-in bench chatter, text messages from teammates starting at 2 a.m., and hopefully less confusion on the ice.
Brigade leadership
- Captain: Auston Matthews – the goal scorer your fantasy team dreams of.
- Alternative captains: Matthew Tkachuk and Charlie McAvoy – bring fire and defensive smarts to every shift.
This team isn’t shy about wearing the label of “leadership” around its neck like a heavy, gold-plated chain. (Admittedly, I’m not sold on Matthews as captain. I never really have been. That said, Matthews has a chance to cement his legacy in USA Hockey with a deep, convincing run.)

NCAA roots
A no fewer than 20 of the 25 players Played NCAA hockey – college is still the feeder system that builds tough, smart players ready for the pressure of big games. We are moving forward all the more now that we are in the midst of the NIL era.
Olympic debut audience
Twenty-three of these 25 players will make their Olympic debut in 2026. Only a few (like Sanderson and Faber) had Olympic experience as of 2022 (pre-NHL era).
Expect one mix of excitement for wide-eyed beginners And seasoned NHL playoff swagger.
Why this selection is more important than ever
Forget casual – this American team is deep. They have scorers on every line, puck movers from the blue line and goaltending that can steal games. And with NHL participation returning after a 12-year Olympic hiatus, this is the richest and most entertaining American roster in years.
Men’s USA Hockey Game Schedule (2026 Winter Olympics)
(All times Eastern Time (ET) – convert if necessary!)
🇺🇸 USA vs Latvia
📅 Thursday February 12
⏰ 3:00 PM–5:30 PM ET
📍Ice hockey arena Milan Santagiulia
🧊 Example: Latvia may not be the flashiest team, but they play with Eastern European grit – kind of like your uncle playing pond hockey after Thanksgiving dinner. (Or so I’m told. Remember, I’m just a Texas guy.) The USA’s puck possession and speed should overwhelm them, but Latvia could sneak in a few shocking goals if Team USA takes a nap on defense.
USA vs Denmark
📅 Saturday February 14
⏰ 3:10pm–5:30pm ET
📍Ice hockey arena Milan Santagiulia
💘 Example: Hockey Valentine’s Day. Denmark’s squad brings messy energy (and possibly a Viking helmet vibe during warm-ups). The US’s finesse and power plays will be tested. Expect a few clutch goals, some couch chit chat and maybe love heart shaped ice cream chips.
USA vs Germany
📅 Sunday February 15
⏰ 3:10pm–5:30pm ET
📍Ice hockey arena Milan Santagiulia
🍺 Example: Deutschland will bring discipline, precise passing and perhaps pretzels for morale. The USA’s attacking talent should rule the day, but Germany’s structured defense could make this more interesting than your average Sunday afternoon.
What happens after the group stage?
If the puck bounces well and Team USA finishes strong in Group C, they will advance to the play-off roundsunder which:
- Play-off Qualification – Tuesday February 17
- Quarterfinals – Wednesday February 18
- Semi-finals — Friday, February 20
- Bronze medal game — Sat February 21
- Gold Medal Game — Sun February 22
(All times to be determined based on progress.)
Quick Fun Facts to Impress Your Friends (Be the Smartest in the Room)
- This is the return of NHL players to the Olympics, which means you’ll see real pros instead of amateurs or beer league heroes.
- Team USA’s defensive corps is stacked, and pairing stars like Quinn Hughes with Charlie McAvoy gives them blue-line swagger.
- The rivalry with Canada and other hockey powerhouses will be fierce, with squeaking on the bench likely only being banned by good taste (which rarely happens in hockey).
- NO FIGHTS. According to international rules, fighting is NOT allowed. If so, you will be suspended for one match, so unfortunately, fans won’t be able to relive the US vs. Canada excitement of the Four Nations tournament, but just watch the video below to give yourself goosebumps all over again.
How to watch
All US games are streamed Peacock and NBC platforms (including NBCOlympics.com), with select TV broadcasts on NBC, CNBC or USA Network.
