Olympic champion Libby Trickett and her entrepreneur husband, Luke, have emerged as buyers of a $20 million mansion on Brisbane’s waterfront.

The five-bedroom, six-bathroom home in Hawthorne’s exclusive Virginia Ave was sold by Sarah Hackett of Place New Farm, who described it as a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity.

Property records show it has just been listed for rent for a whopping $4950 per week – the most expensive rental property currently available in Brisbane.

Libby and Luke Trickett paid $20 million for this mansion in Virginia Ave, Hawthorne.

The Tricketts’ last property purchase was a house in the rural hamlet of Bald Knob, between Maleny and Landsborough in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, in 2021.

They paid $2.25 million for the four-bedroom hinterland home, on an elevated site of 3.4 hectares, with stunning views over the Sunshine Coast coastline.

But 98 Virginia Ave is another level of wow.

The house offers epic city views, a swimming pool and a tennis court.

The Hawthorne property first made headlines when it was first listed because of its previous owner, Don Gardiner, who was known for founding Don Gardiner Chemists.

The three-storey house has 20 meters of river frontage, a swimming pool and a tennis court.

The home was built to take advantage of the views, from living rooms and master suites with city views to a rooftop terrace that stretches across Greater Brisbane.

Ms Hackett said the property was purchased in December 2024 and had only just been established.

“I am so excited that the young family who purchased it will be able to enjoy their riverfront home,” she said.

Luke Trickett, also a former Australian national swimmer and Wilsons stockbroker, has found success with his invoiced payments start-up, Marmalade, which he co-founded with two Afterpay executives in 2019.

The couple welcomed their fifth child in April.

The view from the terrace is great.
