Sheer Rock Lady, who will be piloted from the inside barrier on the back line by Shannon Suvaljko, has won her last three starts at Pinjarra as she showed excellent versatility and beautiful foot clearance.
“She will ride around the smaller Gloucester Park circuit; she has done that before,” Olivieri said. “She touches a knee, has special shoes and races straights.
“The first of her recent Pinjarra wins was over 1684 meters when she ran a very good time (rating 1.55.7), and on her second start over the same distance she just dictated (at the front) and didn’t run a great time (rating 1.58.6) as she ran her final quarter in 26.5 seconds, showing she has some speed.
“Her last win was perhaps her best. She came on a day when a gale was blowing down the straight. It was a very strong sea breeze and she held off a pretty good horse (Classical Ellie) who was on her back and had done nothing. It looked like that horse was going to win, but Sheer Rock Lady would not let her pass and won by 1.57 over 2185 metres. The run was full of merit.”
Sheer Rock Lady is by Follow The Stars and is the second foal of Sheer Rocknroll, who was trained by Olivieri throughout her 74-start career before retiring with earnings of $303,715 from 22 wins and 14 placings.
Sheer Rock Lady’s main rivals look to be pole marker Lenora Jane and easy last start Pinjarra winner Vinita Rose, who will start from barrier three on the front line and will be piloted by her trainer Aldo Cortopassi.
