Old Joe Dumars Quote explains the method to his madness with the pelicans

During the NBA outside the season I often find myself with a lot of free time, because I no longer leave a stay to watch double buyers or do film out. The NFL will be as great as September that will start and the regular seasons of WNBA and MLB dealt with, I still notice that I long for my fix of the NBA.

The best way for me to satisfy this constant itching for the NBA is to view basketball documentaries, in particular ESPN’s 30 for 30.

My favorite documentary ever is the ESPN 30 for 30 Bad Boys called. The documentary investigates how the “Bad Boy” Detroit pistons from the end of the 1980s, early 1990s were formed. It is done so well and offers great interviews with all the important members of one of the most difficult teams in the NBA ever.

You probably wonder how this connects to the New Orleans -Pelikans. If you are not known, Joe Dumars Pelican President of basketball operations were part of those teams. Dumars was the stable off-guard next to Isiah Thomas and contributed to their back-to-back NBA titles in 1989 and 1990. Dumars even won Finals MVP in 1989.

For about 40 minutes in this document, the pistons players start talking about how the entire NBA had labeled them as bad guys, and they decided to embrace it and give themselves the nickname ‘Bad Boys’.

While discussing this new identity, Dumars dropped a jewel that reveals why he is the ideal leader for the Pelicans.

“Every great team needs an identity, you can’t be great in this competition and have no identity.”

Identity is something the pelicans miss and Dumars brings it

When Dumars took over the pelicans, they never really had a culture or identity. That is something he tried to establish from the first day; That is why he brought in both Jordan Poole and Kevon Looney, two boys who know what is needed to be champions.

Dumars said last week that he does not want players in the building who do not want to be here, which exactly is the kind of message that the pistons had when Joe played for them and she ran. When comparing the Bad Boy suckers with the Chauncey Billups era, one thing is consistent: they were against the whole world. The same idea is that Dumars is trying to bring to this pelican team.

Despite the quote about the identity of more than 10 years old, Dumars’ thinking process has not changed in building a winner. He understands the biggest thing outside of injuries that stop this team was not an identity, while they do that now.

Coming in next season, the pelicans will mean tough and one for everyone, all for one.
