The outdoor season of the Edmonton Oilers has been anything but quiet. Leon Draisaitl, Vooruit Kasperi Kapanen, and defender Troy Stecher married this summer in separate parties, so the personal life of different players was all about the festivities. However, there was other news in the form of rumors Evander Kane Trade Fallout to whisper about the future of Connor McDavid.
Needless to say, there are major decisions for the 2025-26 season.

Kane Trade Fallout
Reports of the 2 Mutts podcast Claim Evander Kane’s Run in Edmonton may not be ready and that former associated coach Paul Coffey was unhappy with the decision of the management to send Kane to the Vancouver Canucks. The reports suggest that the two parties can watch a reunion after next season when Kane becomes an unlimited free agent.
They also note that Coffey, now back in his role as adviser of owner Daryl Katz, could have more influence on schedule decisions.
McDavid’s future
Everyone is still on Connor McDavid contract Watch. The concern is that if the captain becomes dissatisfied with the direction of the team, or if the oilers do not quickly win a Stanley Cup, he could decide that he is better off elsewhere.
That said, it is expected that he will sign an extension before the end of August and his close friendship with Leon Draisaitl suggests that he will stay hanging for a few years. McDavid has been clear – winning is the decisive factor, but he said that if the Oilers will be contenders, he sees no problem signing.
Objectives for Target Homes
Insider Bob Stauffer has hinded a goalkeeper with ties with the organization – thought of the prospect of Detroit and former oil king Sebastian Cossa. There have also been conversations about Ilya Samsonov on a PTO, or a keeper like Michael Dipietro on exemptions.
Yet it sounds like the oilers start the 2025-26 with the tandem of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.
Jake Walman and other extensions a possibility
His conversations are reportedly going on about an eight-year-old deal for defender Jake Walman, who would give Edmonton long-term costs certainty and Wallman security with a CUP participant.
There is also a chat that the oilers look at deals for Mattias Ekholm, Vasily Podkolzin and Brett Kulak. Each may look at unique terms and a different series of circumstances, but the oilers want to lock each of these players for new deals.
