Oilers give Jake Walman injury update after win over Senators

1 minute, 29 seconds Read

The Edmonton Oilers received good and bad news Tuesday night, especially regarding defenseman Jake Walman and forward Curtis Lazar. Both were injured during the comeback win and both could miss some time.

Lazar left Tuesday’s game early against the Ottawa Senators and did not return. Head coach Kris Knoblauch said it would be at least a week before he returns to the lineup. As for Walman, it’s not expected to be too serious. Walman missed the third period and it’s too early to know if he’ll be out. Edmonton doesn’t play the Carolina Hurricanes again until Friday.

Walman had a hard time on Tuesday. The reactions to the coupling(s) he was on were not positive. Darnell Nurse and Walman were particularly leaky on their own turf. It sounds bad to say it, but the Oilers had a much better game in the final frame when he wasn’t on the ice.

Knoblauch noted”I don’t think it’s very serious. The other five guys played well, and we didn’t have to push Jake and let him keep playing.” Even trailing by a few goals, the Oilers opted not to force the issue and brought in the offensively solid Walman.

The Oilers staged a comeback against the Senators, winning 5-4 in overtime. Zach Hyman scored the equalizer and Evan Bouchard scored the winner.

The Oilers will have a new face in the lineup on Friday when Connor Murphy joins them following the trade that brought him from Chicago. Where he will fit in and where Walman will go if he is able to return remains unknown.
