It was a special hundred that came off 224 balls. This brave innings played a crucial role for West Indies as they avoided the follow-on in the ongoing third Test against New Zealand. Now the touring side has the final day and 10 wickets in hand to chase the massive 419 extra runs to level the Test series after drawing the first game on the tour.

After the stumps, Hodge said, “Luckily I was able to get over it and go past the landmark. I said to myself, Hey, I spent all day trying to get to 90. I still have all day tomorrow. Just stick to the processes. There’s no point; I’m working so hard from zero to 90 and then going to change. So stick to the processes and stay focused every chance I get.”

In doing so, Latham and Conway became the first opening pair in the history of Test cricket to score centuries in both innings of the same match.
