Official statement from the German FA – Update on Nick Woltemade’s situation

The German FA (DFB) has released an official update on Nick Woltemade.

On Monday we found out (see below) that the Newcastle United forward had not joined the Germany squad due to a flu infection/flu symptoms.

Germany has two major group qualifiers for the World Cup on Friday, October 10, at home against Luxembourg, and away against Northern Ireland in Belfast on Monday, October 13.

In an official update (see below) late on Tuesday from the German FA, they said that Nick Woltemade was now on his way to meet the rest of the squad and was expected in Herzogenaurach late last night.

The DFB notes that it is unknown whether the NUFC star will be able to train on Wednesday morning.

But whether he does or not, I think this update is positive for Newcastle United.

If the flu symptoms had developed further, there would be no way the German Football Association would have allowed him to travel and join the rest of the squad.

I think this was clearly more of a precautionary measure, to ensure that whatever affected Nick Woltemade would not be contagious and could be passed on to the other German players.

The striker is in excellent form and after getting an assist in Germany’s last match, a 3-1 home win over Northern Ireland, I think there is a good chance Woltemade can score a first-ever goal for his country at senior level when he comes on to the pitch.

DFB (German FA) official statement – October 7, 2025:

‘Nick Woltemade is expected to arrive at the German national team headquarters in Herzogenaurach late on Tuesday evening.

The striker of English Premier League club Newcastle United, who has made four senior appearances so far, was initially unable to travel to the German national team on Monday due to a flu infection.

It remains to be seen when Woltemade can return to team training.’

The Mag Report – Monday October 6, 2025:

‘Nick Woltemade continued his great form for Newcastle United on Sunday.

The striker made his fifth United start and scored his fourth goal for the club.

A beautiful penalty in the top corner with top-level technique, Boswachter Sels remained with his feet on the spot.

However, according to this media report, Nick Woltemade has not joined the German team.

ESPN report that the German FA said on Monday that the NUFC star has succumbed to a virus.

“Nick Woltemade will not travel today due to a flu infection.”

The German squad was announced last week (see below) to play the World Cup group qualifiers at home to Luxembourg on Friday, October 10, and then away to Northern Ireland in Belfast on Monday, October 13.”
