Official: Barcelona confirms ‘small injury’ to the most important midfielder

FC Barcelona has issued an official statement that confirms that the most important midfielder Frenkie de Jong has sustained a small muscle injury.

“Player Frenkie de Jong has suffered a slight injury to the external obturator muscle of his right leg. His recovery will determine his availability,” read the statement.

De Jong sustained the injury while he was in action last week for the Dutch national team against Poland.

The midfielder played for 83 minutes against the Robert Lewandowski team before he was picked up in his buttock muscles. Shortly thereafter, the Dutch national team announced that the 28-year-old from the team was released for their match against Lithuania due to the injury.

De Jong returned to Barça during the weekend and today has undergone tests at the club facilities and it has now been confirmed that his injury is minors, although the explanation does not reveal the length of his absence.

Although the issue is not serious, the midfielder from the upcoming La Liga match will be against Valencia, taking into account the UEFA Champions League opener against Newcastle United next week.
