I wasn’t sure what to write about today, so I’m going for a mixed approach. Let’s start:
Have you seen Bitcoin drop lately?
I started buying a little Bitcoin in April 2021. It was around its peak at the time, around $60,000. I’ve invested $50 here and there. It was enough that I didn’t notice it, but I had hoped it would increase over time. It gradually dropped to $30,000, and I continued to buy occasionally. It really dropped in June 2022 and made about $18,000. Then I invested $250 a few times. Then I just left it alone.
That changed in November last year, when the stock fell from a high of about $125,000 to $90,000. I started buying again but in $50 and $100 increments. I bought for 85k, 82k, 78k, 75k, 72k, 67k and finally Thursday for 63k. That last one was $200.
It feels like gambling. There is no business behind Bitcoin – no income or dividends to accompany real investments. Right now I’m actually putting money into it thinking it’s too big to fail. There are financial companies with major interests in Bitcoin.
About a month ago I wrote that TINA is back – which means there is no alternative. Everything in the markets was high. However, that no longer feels true. If you are considering buying Bitcoin, be careful.
[Update: As I’m about to post this, Bitcoin has already started to recover significantly.]
Rental property finally rented out
Last March, our tenant broke the lease and left town. There was a major health problem and they needed to be closer to the hospital. We completely renovated it for a few months. The market in Newport, RI, is very seasonal, with many heading south in the winter. We missed the popular summer months and no one was looking or applying. This week we finally signed a lease!
Basically focusing on my hobbies
One of the main reasons for the delay in this week’s article is that I’m enjoying my new hobbies too much. Some of it is stuff I wanted to do last year. Since that’s part of my monthly update next week, I’ll save it for then.
Super Bowl Prediction
I used to write a really long Super Bowl prediction article when the Patriots were in it. I suspect this happened Real annoying for readers who are not from New England. I tried to make it a “bonus” article this weekend, but I still can’t see how it could have misled people. So I’m going to keep it fairly short.
Seattle has shown all year that they are the better team. That’s why they are favorites. The Patriots defense was great when its two stars (Christian Gonzalez and Milton Williams) were on the field. In the three playoff games, they have allowed just 8.6 per game. Being a homer biased person, I believe in the theory that the Patriots can force NFL turnover leader Sam Darnold into one more turnover that will make the difference. Plus, it’s hard to vote against a team that has the best player in the most important position. (Drake Maye fell 1.3% votes short of the MVP in the closest voting in over twenty years.)
Score: Patriots 24, Seattle 20
