Nottingham Blank Blaze, Celebrate 6-Point Week | Pro hockey news

Nottingham Panthers earned a four-point weekend and a week of six points, with a Shutout victory on the road against Coventry Blaze on Sunday evening.

It was not long to open the score in the SkyDome, with Matt Marcinew de Panthers ahead after just 48 seconds when he shot in the Net van Mat Robson – the end of the Shutout -Streak of the Blaze goalie at two games.

“It’s nice to come up with the points,” started Marcinew, whose goal would prove to be the game winner. “I don’t think we played our best, but in the second and again we got better in the third, so we improved as the game progressed. We keep getting better and had a number of great goal convenation from Kevin (Carr).”

The best chance of the blaze to deliver came when Colton Saucerman put a slap in line, only for his stick to explode during the shooting movement. The wrapped attempt by Didrik Henbrandt was the other chance of note in the opening period.

If period one was full of action, period two was missing somewhat. Playing a lot back and forth, the Panthers saw the better chances of shadows, but neither of them could get on the board.

With only 3:30 left in the third, Chase Pearson has tipped the shot of David Noël from the point past Robson to put the Panthers two in front.

“I think we have started really hot, maybe they may not have received the bounces that we deserved with about 20 shots in the lock there, so I think it was just one of those nights,” said Blaze Forward Grayson Constable in his mind after the game. “It really makes you confident if you have a man like Mat Robson in the net if you can count on him. We never try to be upset and just keep playing our way.”

Robson was drawn with 2:14 to play and after a few attempts in the open cage, Zsombor Garát found the unguarded just to complete the game.

“It was great to get the six points this week, it is great for us as a team and especially important in the cup with how tight the rankings is,” Marcinew added. “I really enjoy it in Nottingham. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I arrived here for the first time, but every day that goes by, I become more comfortable. It has been very nice so far and hopefully we can maintain this profit streak.”

Constable concluded: “We are currently a few boys for a short time, but are starting to get healthy, and it will be nice to get them back, so that Colton Saucerman does not have to play 30 minutes a night! Everyone feels sure that our next games will go into it.”
