Batchgenoten from Jyoti Sharma, a second-year BDS student at a prominent private university in Greater Noida, who died on Friday due to suicide, have detailed the mental intimidation to which she was subjected. Speaking to India today, they said that Jyoti was subjected to humiliation with personal comments and was often on the receiving side of the taunting of the educational staff.

The 21-year-old student from Gurugram left an alleged suicide letter and accused two professors and the university administration of mental intimidation. She wrote that she had been mentally bothered and humiliated for a long time, which caused her suffering.

Among the entries she wrote about cutting her own hair – an act that her friends later said that it was a visible sign of emotional need.

Jyoti expressed the wish of the accused to take legal action. The police later arrested two university employees.

Sources today revealed to India that Jyoti has been maintaining a personal diary for several months, with details about her struggle with depression and the alleged mental intimidation that she encountered in the Dental Science department.

Students of Jyoti’s party, who talk about the condition of anonymity, claimed that two faculty members – Professor Mahendra and Professor Shairy – used routine derogatory language in the classroom, aimed at students with humiliation and threats. According to them, Jyoti was often at the receiving end of such verbal abuse.

“The issue of a forged signature on an assignment is misleading,” said another student who spoke for her. The professors have often harassed other students and often refused to sign their logs or say that they did not sign it if they wanted to harass a student.

“Professor Shairy regularly taunts her,” said one of the classmates of Jyoti. “Tu Easter Hoke Dikha (let’s see if you can even pass)” – she would say this to Jyoti for everyone “.

Another student claimed that Jyoti was once told by the same professor: “Kitna Ganda Roti Hai Tu Tere Se Better Main Ro Ro Ro Dungi (you are crying so badly. I can cry better than you)”. The student these were not jokes and the tone was always meant to humiliate and belittle her.

Accusations mainly point to the Prosthodontia department, in which students describe the faculty of the dental materials as one of the worst in terms of behavior and behavior of classroom.

Emphasizing that Jyoti was not bad in studies, another batchmate of hers said: “She passed her dental exams, Vivas knew. She was a better than average student. Those who said she has a academically failed”.

This is not the first time that the university is in the spotlight for suicides of students. In 2022, a student from Arunachal Pradesh also died of suicide on campus. At the time, university officials had cited personal and family reasons behind the incident.

After the case came to light on Saturday, students protested against the university administration, who claimed negligence.

Later, Dr. confirmed Ajit Kumar, the Public Relations Officer of the university, that two faculty members were suspended.
