‘No TT, no R8’: Audi’s new electric sports car that will be unveiled in September – Jalopnik

Audi forced us to say goodbye to the TT at the end of 2023 and the R8 at the beginning of 2024, and although coupes are not exactly large sellers nowadays, they kill the left Audi without a sports car of any kind in the line -up. So is that it? Is Audi done with two -door cars? No, not at all. Instead, the Coupes become electric, with Auto And Director Report that Audi CEO Gernot Döllner told the German newspaper Child That we see a new concept of electric sports cars in September, just before the Munich Motor Show.

So, will the concept be a new Audi TT? Or will it be a new R8? According to Döllner it will not be either. Instead, the new electric sports car sounds like it will be a bit of a replacement for both, where Döllner tells Child It will “be a very emotional sports car – not TT, not R8, but something in between.” Given that it will not be in the front or mid -engine and will be an EV instead, that is probably a good thing. Wearing a name would probably be good for recognition, but at the same time it makes sense to give the new electric sports car its own identity.

Although the car we see in September will officially be a concept, Döllner confirmed that he is on his way to production and says it clearly: “The car will be built.” Do not look for Audi’s electric sports car to go on sale immediately. Instead, it will reportedly arrive at dealers in about two years. There is a good chance that it will at least share a platform with the upcoming electrical replacement of Porsche for the 718 Boxster and Cayman, a project that is reportedly not going so well, so waiting two years may be needed to work out all the nods before customers get their dirty small legs on it.

TT Moment 2.0

While Döllner has not revealed many details about the new car, including what it will be called, Car and driver Says that the coming concept will also show off a new design language and interior, together with various new technical functions. Allegedly we will also see that design language in future Audis, so you better hope that you like the new look. If this is not the case, you will not like almost every new Audi that you see the next decade. Maybe it looks like the Skysphere concept of 2021 that is shown here, or maybe not, but personally I would not complain if that was the case. This thing looks so wheel.

Regardless of what the concept actually looks like, although Döllner Audi’s had admitted in recent years and needs a “TT Moment 2.0” to get back on the right track. He also called the upcoming car ‘an identity builder’ and told Child“I don’t want to put around the bush; we now have to get back on the right track.” Those are certainly the right things to say, considering how difficult it is to justify buying other Audi than perhaps the new Q6 e-tron about his competitors. Nevertheless, Audi can still be seen throughout the “Get Back on track”.

Anyway, however, we have a cool new concept with production intention to look forward to. And for better or worse, in just over a month we will have a much better idea of the direction of Audi.
