The KL Car Free Morning (KLCFM) working committee has announced that there will be no KLCFM on October 26, this Sunday. The weekly Sunday morning open circuit around the city has been canceled due to “extensive road closures in Kuala Lumpur in connection with the ASEAN Summit 2025.”
The 47th ASEAN Summit, which Kuala Lumpur is hosting this week, will be the largest meeting of its kind hosted by the regional bloc. In addition to leaders of ASEAN countries, world leaders led by US President Donald Trump will also descend on KL for this edition.
Trump will be accompanied by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. Brazil and South Africa will become sectoral dialogue partners of ASEAN, while the two European countries are on the verge of becoming ASEAN dialogue partners.
With KL’s city center in “total lockdown”, as Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan put it, many roads have been closed and the PDRM is in full force for security and traffic control. Large traffic jams can then be expected.
Fans of the KLCFM – where 5/7 kilometers of city center roads are closed to traffic to give cyclists, runners and skaters complete freedom on Sunday morning – will have to wait for further announcements for the next event.
