Desperate parents demanded that Indonesian officials accelerate the efforts to find dozens of children who are missing in the collapse of a school, in which rescuers detected signs of life under the rubble.
It is believed that an estimated 91 people in the ruins of the school with several floors are on the island of Java who took place a sudden place on Monday to Monday, because students had gathered for afternoon prayers.
At least three people were killed in the collapse, but on the basis of school records, “91 people are probably buried,” said spokesperson for the National Disaster and Mitigation Office Abdul Muhari in a statement at the end of Tuesday.
On Wednesday, tearing parents were anxious about the ruins, awaiting news from their children.

“We believe that our children may still be alive because they were crying for help,” said Father Abdul Hanan, whose 14-year-old son is missing.

“The rescue operation must be accelerated,” the 45-year-old told Agence France Presse.

“We are now racing by the time,” he added, burst into tears.
In the neighborhood, Dewi Sulistiana waited for news from her 14-year-old son. They were last in contact on Sunday. The boarding school limits the access of students to mobile phones.
She rushed to the stage from Surabaya, removed a few tens of kilometers (miles) after she heard about the collapse.
“I have been here for days. I was crying my son,” she said AFP.

“Why does it take so long to find him, why is the search so slow? I have not had any updates, so I just wait.”

Tunnels and drones

The rescue operation is complex, said Mohammad Syafi’i, head of the National Search and Rescue Agency.
“If vibrations take place in one place, this can influence other places. So now, to reach the place where the victims are, we have to dig an underground tunnel,” he said reporters.
Digging itself is challenges, including possible landslides. And each tunnel only offers an access route of approximately 60 centimeters (about 23 inches) wide due to the concrete columns of the structure.
Technology including thermal drones is used to find survivors and the deceased as the 72-hour “golden period” for the best chances of survival is approaching the end.

AFP saw rescuers in orange uniforms seem to be snake cameras under the rubble to hunt traces of survivors.

Until now, signs of life have been detected in seven areas, said EMI freezer, of the National Search and Rescue Agency.

Water and food are submitted, but access is through a single point, he said.
“The main structure has completely collapsed.”
An earthquake complicates the operation and hit offshore at night and briefly stopped the search.
Around the ruins, local charity organizations have set up messages with offering food and drinking families.
The collapse of the school was so violent that it sent vibrations in the neighborhood, the local resident Ani said.
“I felt a vibration and then I heard a sound. I immediately ran to save myself. At first I knew it was a collapse of the building,” the owner of the supermarket told AFP.
“Many people then also ran to save themselves,” she added.
Research into the cause of the collapse is underway, but initial signs indicate structural problems and construction that did not meet the construction standards, experts said.
The building collapsed after the pillars of the base had not supported the weight of the new building on the fourth floor of the school, said the spokesperson for the National Disaster Management Office.
