Ninety -fifty is still missing when parents wait for news after the Indonesian school collapsed

Desperate parents demanded that Indonesian officials accelerate the efforts to find dozens of children who are missing in the collapse of a school, in which rescuers detected signs of life under the rubble.

In the neighborhood, Dewi Sulistiana waited for news from her 14-year-old son. They were last in contact on Sunday. The boarding school limits the access of students to mobile phones.
She rushed to the stage from Surabaya, removed a few tens of kilometers (miles) after she heard about the collapse.
“I have been here for days. I was crying my son,” she said AFP.

“Why does it take so long to find him, why is the search so slow? I have not had any updates, so I just wait.”

Tunnels and drones

The rescue operation is complex, said Mohammad Syafi’i, head of the National Search and Rescue Agency.
“If vibrations take place in one place, this can influence other places. So now, to reach the place where the victims are, we have to dig an underground tunnel,” he said reporters.
