
Nine horses, from classic winners to Eclipse Award winners to modern Superstar Millionaires, are on the last mood. The finalists (in Alpha Order) are Bee Bee Bee, Brilliant Copper, Cathryn Sophia, Coverat, Cherokee’s Boy, Eighttofasttocatch, Heros Reward, including and smart corner.
To be eligible for induction in the Thorough Bred Hall of Fame of Maryland, a horse in Maryland must have been bred and retired for at least five years. Voting is made by a committee of members of the racing sector of Maryland and coordinated by the Maryland Horse Breeders Association and Maryland Racing Media Association, which jointly founded the Thorough Hall of Fame of Maryland in 2013. There are now 36 members of the Hall of Fame, varying, alphabetically, from Awad to youth. Most years two horses are added, although last year’s class had three.
This year’s inductees will be announced in the coming weeks and an induction ceremony will take place at the Timonium Meet, Friday, August 29 in the stands.
A short summary of every finalist follows:
Bee Bee Bee. The seventh Maryland bred in history to win the preakness when he took the 3-year-old classic of Pimlico in an overwhelming favorite Riva Ridge in 1972, he achieved honor as Maryland-Bred Horse of the Year from 1972 and champion 3-year-old, who followed a championship year in 2.
Brilliant copper. At the start of her career due to knee problems and colic, the Roan mare finally came to her right at the age of 5 in 1992. That season she won nine stakes, had three stake places and earned $ 659.080, and she was named Maryland-Foked Horse of the Year and Champion older mare. Five of her victories were arranged. Only Challedon and Sigar, both in the National Hall of Fame, had so much commitment to a Maryland bred in one year.
Cathryn Sophia. In less than a year she earned more than $ 1 million in nine starts and was good for six wins – five in Stakes. She was by Maryland-Bred Champion of Her Division on 2 and 3, she won the class 1 Kentucky Oaks, had three degrees 1 placements in 2016, was a finalist for an Eclipse Award and earned the title of Maryland-Bred Horse of the Year.
CAVEAT. Winner of the Belmont Stakes from 1983 and third in the Kentucky Derby, he made 21 starts in less than a year while competing in 10 different songs, from his first start as a 2-year-old in Belmont Park to his last start in the Belmont Stakes, which he left with an injury forced his retirement.
Cherokee’s Boy. A winner of the deployment each of the five seasons he raced, he took a millionaire with 19 wins from 48 starts, while he wins 14 stakes and 14 stake places. The Maryland-Bred champion Juvenile of 2002, he was Maryland-Foked Horse of the Year and champion older male man of 2005. His average margin of the career was more than four and a half length.
Eight -tofasttocatch. Winner of a dozen interests, including three victories in the Maryland Million Classic, although he did not make his commitment to the fall of his 4-year season. He eliminated a millionaire after winning his fourth consecutive victory in the historic Jennings Handicap.
Heros Reward. Racing for nine years, he took eight Maryland-Bred Championship titles home, including Horse of the Year of 2007, and raised a millionaire. A triple winner of the effort, his most important victories came to Canada, in Woodbine’s Nearctic-G2 and Scotts Highlander Stakes-G3.
Involve. Only the fourth Maryland-Foked History to win the Grade 1 Pimlico Special, he brought $ 1,435,400 that season, with eight top-three Finishes in nine starts, and earned the awards of Maryland-Foked Horse of the Year and Ouder Paard Champion. The three special winners of Maryland-bred Pimlico who came to Challedon, Vertex and Cigar all in the Thoroughbred Hall of Fame of Maryland.
Smart corner. The Eclipse Award-winning champion 2-year-old Merrieveeulen from 1979 she conquered six bets that year, four degrees 1s-the Selima, Frizette, Matron and SpinAway and was on the board in all nine starts.
