The Phoenix Suns may have made a number of schedule movements, but nobody was as intriguing as Nigel Hayes-Davis returning his European adventure. The 30-year-old was named a last four MVP from the Euroleague while he was at Powerhouse Fenerbahce, and it was also said that it was interested in him from several other large clubs in Europe this summer.
But it was the Suns that he managed to return to the United States to give the competition a crack – and after the departure of Kevin Durant – it is now clearer than ever why that is. Hayes-Davis can not only take some of the minutes of the whole time, he can also give some wisdom to boys like Jalen Green and remind them how quickly fortunes can change.
3-point shooting capacity of Hayes-Davis a huge plus for sunbathing.
One of the less spoken aspects of Hayes-Davis’s game is his improved 3-point shootings, with Veania alone And Bryce Simon bring it up to their most recent Game theory podcast episode. Neither of them had kept a close eye on the player since he went to Europe, but in six seasons with three different teams there, he shot a shadow of less than 40 percent from outside.
This is huge for the Suns when you consider that he will play as a power forward, and will be able to stretch the court for Green and Devin Booker for operating. Hayes -Davis was not brought in to replace durant in any way offensive – that is literally impossible – but demanding less of the ball and a willing 3 -point shooter must make him a popular player for head coach Jordan Ott.
This team will have to try to do collectively what DURANT could only be, and Hayes-Davis will be an important part of that. He will not start games – but if they in combination with Rookie – Center Kaman Maluach – will again function as a release valve when the assets break down and the suns need a veteran to save them from a broken game.
For all the negative around the suns last season – and everything was earned because they came up with many expectations – they managed to convert the third most 3 -point attempts every night to 37.8 percent. Being elite with the most important skill in the competition will translate into some victories, and it is clear that Hayes-Davis can help in that department.
That makes its addition to a minimum deal the smartest business community that the Front Office has succeeded in being done. Not only because of what he will bring to the dressing room, but also with his ability to stretch the floor and start some intriguing two-man games with both Green and Booker. A great turn of events for a player who still deserves a chance in the NBA.
