It was clearly a huge story in Slovenia this summer, when both Newcastle United and Manchester United tried to buy Benjamin Sesko.
Some interesting thoughts from Zupan, now that the 2025/26 season is underway.
He believes that Benjamin Sesko would have been much better to come to Newcastle United than Man U (or Arsenal), because Eddie Howe’s playing style fits a much better.
However, the Slovenian football expert also thinks that Eddie Howe and Newcastle United had a better signature in Nick Woltemade to take this challenging season, then would have been the case if they would have signed Benjamin Sesko.
Tine Zupan talk to the Vala 202 podcast, as quoted by RTVSLO – September 23, 2025:
“I think Newcastle United has a much better playing style for the characteristics of Benjamin Sesko.
“The Newcastle style is a better reflection of what he was used to at Leipzig.
“They are an extremely direct team, very quickly, looking for a different way to score than Manchester United.
“We saw a big problem with Rasmus Hojlund there last season, who was the last striker for Sesko. His shot-on-target statistics were terrible.
“He had games and games when he didn’t get a shot and now we see it with Benjamin Sesko.
“Neither Manchester United nor Arsenal have the ideal game for Benjamin Sesko. Arsenal because they are dominant and Sesko needs space for his game.
“In Manchester United we see the start of Amorim’s game for the first time this season, which is considerably more targeted than last season.
“Sesko would be better suited for Newcastle United [than Man U or Arsenal] But I am not sure if it would be better for Newcastle to have Benjamin Sesko instead of Nick Woltemade.
“At the moment I think Woltemade is more ready for what he should do.”
