Friedman: “Just a few things. First, I wanted to mention one of the more interesting stories I heard in the aftermath of the last few days: Brayden Schenn accepted a trade with the New York Islanders. And as many people saw, the Islanders and the Blues were actually staying in the same hotel out west.

They were not sure that Schenn would accept this deal. And what happened, the islanders were asked Mathieu Darche And Patrick Roywe can meet Schenn in person and talk to him about why he should join our team.

And I told that story to someone today, and they said, that couldn’t be possible Patrick Roy made Schenn leave that room without saying yes to the Islanders. But it was at that meeting that they convinced Schenn to say yes. And that was the final thing that got the Brayden Schenn deal over the line.

It’s been a crazy week in St. Louis. I mean, one day we’ll find out how many deals there were from that team, because I don’t think Parayko was the only trade that was vetoed. I think there were others.”

Ron MacLean: “Yes, that was the point. It’s a favorite day for the fan, for the journalists, I think it’s his favorite day. But for the stakeholders it was a difficult week. The Parayko situation, the John CarlsonYou know, he sleeps and finds out in the middle of the night that he got traded.

What do you think the consequences will be, Elliotte? Do you think the fact that 30% of players have negotiated a contract is no move, no trade? Do you think it would be a big step to get rid of that? What do you think it’s going to be?”

Friedman: “Well, we’re still a few years away from the next CBA, but it’s interesting. I’ve had agents and players say to me, we’re fighting for that, and we would expect the players’ union to fight for us to still have the ability to negotiate that fairly.

And some teams said to me that maybe we need to be safe for ourselves, but we need to push this back. And it’s a long way away. But today I was told that in the last round I was told that there were a few teams that went into the competition and said, ‘Can we do something about this?’ And it was clearly not so big that it could be handled.”
