Jack Roslovic rejected two and three-year contract offers on 1 July. At the start of training camps he is still looking for a deal
The Chris Johnston show: Chris Johnston about what’s going on with UFA Vooruit Jack Roslovic. He rejected two and three-year offers on July 1 and now notices that he has problems finding a two-year deal. Which teams may be interested in giving him a ‘prove’ deal?

Julian Mackenzie: “Okay, another signed question, and this is with a UFA and not RFA. We record this podcast on Monday 22 September and Jack Roslovic still has not signed. What gives?
Johnson: “Yes. I mean, this is a bit of a warning story, I would say. And you know, when I did the Free Agent Board that led until July 1, Julian, I don’t really remember where I had him, but I certainly had him in the top 50.

And I think somewhere around the 20th or so. As he was, you know, fairly high. I mean, Jack Roslovic is a player, you know, can play the middle position. I know that the hurricanes, like him, even had him last year, but had the feeling that they would not be able to pay him what he had to be paid. And then, low and see, we are in full swing around the competition, and he has not signed anywhere.
And I look back on that first day of free desk, and this is where the musical seats can be. Just like me, I understand that he had offers from the bi-biennial reach, $ 3.5 to $ 3.75 million. You know, of course, have not made those offers. You hope that something better will come. But July 1 will be July 4, July 10. You come in August, and then the kind of offers that Jack Roslovic gets are lower.
And that is really only because I believe that the money has been spent on other players. That, those that, those offers for him at the beginning of the free agency dry that because players such as Andrew Mangiapane board, or, you know, other boys in that kind of contract range that I call. And then the kind of offers that you can get in August will see a bit worse. Just like two years, it is two, two and a half million, I think, is about where he was.
Then you come in September, and even two -year deals are hard to find. And so you know, it has been a struggle for this player. You know, he had to change agents, or he has chosen to choose, also to change agents in the summer. And you know, I, I don’t know enough to say such as who, who is to blame here. I am not saying that he made a mistake, but it is a warning story in it, so so many players honestly report to 1 or second. Because after the first few days, in general, the money becomes quiet again, in general.

There are a few, you know, from bijters. A few years ago I remember Nazem Kadri, before he got his problem in Calgary, as if he were on the market for a few weeks. But in general the players assign larger money for the first two days for the desk, or you are cooked. It’s just, it’s a function of, I think the cap. It is a function of, that is the way everyone is used to doing business. It is such a scrambling at the start of the free desk.
And so I think he is just a player who fell through the cracks, who was pressed, and then suddenly, you chase it a bit. And so, you know, we will see if he can get a multi -year deal. I think he would like some safety, but he could eventually be in a position, in a position. And I think that certainly some total dollars will have left on the table by the time he signs where he signs here to play the season.
And then he has to try to run that back, a big season, and next summer is much friendlier for him. And it will actually look at it and go like, hey, that has been successful. But at the moment it was a tough summer for Jack Roslovic.
And you can only imagine the stress that you may feel, especially him, as if we are talking about a proven NHL player. And at the moment, you know, he hasn’t missed a salary yet. Players are only paid during the regular season. So you know, he actually didn’t lose anything. But you know, I think he has lost the ability to draw in his next city, to move comfortably there, to establish himself, starting with his new teammates. Get used to it, you know, this is not the way you would have drawn it up if he lands somewhere.

And you know, I just think it should be a matter of time before he registers somewhere. But it, you know, the offers went on a sliding scale for him. And, you know, unfortunately, whether he honestly or not, he will have to prove himself again, I think, to get the kind of contract that he was originally looking for, in July.
Julian McKenzie: “I wonder which teams would be open to give it to give it to the deal? Like me, I automatically think of the senators of Ottawa and think what they might want to do with their top-six. I don’t know if that may be there. They certainly have a salary capace to make a cheap deal?
Is this someone, maybe the Leafs could be or should be interested? I wonder which teams can show interest at the moment.
Well, I mean, I would look at the teams that need a center, you know, as at least possibilities. Now he does not necessarily solve the long term. Like, I am not sure if you are struck him in the center of a good team in the center of a good team.
You know. So clearly is Montreal a team that is, which has spoken about the search for a center. They are looking for a center in Vancouver. You know, I think these teams have been on different points around Roslovic. I don’t know if he lands like that somewhere.

I don’t see the Leafs much of it now, just because, if there is something, they have too many attackers in the camp and, and they are probably confronted with a scenario at a certain moment before, you know, you know the season, you know, an attacker or maybe two are moving somewhere. I mean, it can just be done by distance. Could be sent by the American Hockey League. But you know, I don’t necessarily see them in an addition position at the moment.
But you know, the other, the other factor to consider here is injuries, could require a number of decisions. You know, something can happen today in a practice or in one of the pre -season games that are being played tonight, who change the view of how teams approach this. And that is probably where you are on banking when you are in the Roslovic camp.
Is that, you know, because he plays a position that actually feel very few teams about their depth in the middle, right? I mean, even the good teams are always looking for another third lining in that position. That is, that is, you know, a trade theadline. Those kinds of players who are picked up are, you know, good teams that want to add a little depth to their blue line, or a third line center, or perhaps a treasons.
So you know, I’m sure he must meet those teams. But the price at its end of the comparison, I think, it will just not be the same as what was available to him on July 1, unless something very strange is coming. But you know, tough summer for him and, and you know, we will see, see where he ends up. ‘
