Vancouver Canucks pending UFAs are available now, but who knows what will happen closer to the deadline
TSN: Darren Dreger said the Vancouver Canucks sent a memo to teams saying they would listen to offers for their pending UFAs, and not all their veteran players. Names would include Kiefer Sherwood, Evander KaneAnd Teddy Blueger. The Canucks are looking for centermen. If they could get a younger player they like in return, why not make the move sooner rather than wait for the chaos of the deadline?
“But if they don’t, and they have to wait, they’re okay with that too. They have to get healthy, they want to keep competing because they know what’s coming, and that’s the uncertainty around their captain. Quinn Hughes.
“If this season doesn’t improve, all chances may be off and you’ll have to re-evaluate Hughes’ future in Vancouver, at the deadline or off-season, as you get closer to the deadline.”
NHL Injuries: Hurricanes, Blue Jackets, Oilers, Rangers, Penguins, Maple Leafs, Jets and more
The Montreal Canadiens are among the teams interested Ryan O’Reilly. The costs to O’Reilly would…
TSN: The Nashville Predators will continue to get younger as they will listen to offers from some of their veteran players. Teams will make calls Steven Stamkos And Jonathan Marchessaultboth have no-trade clauses, but the Preds are open to that if they are, according to Pierre LeBrun, who adds:
“The name that has the most interest is Ryan O’Reilly, which isn’t surprising. There are teams that also drafted him last year. The Predators decided to keep him at the time. He has a year and a half left on his contract for $4.5 million, which is very attractive to teams looking for a Stanley Cup champion center.”
The Montreal Canadians are among the teams, I am told, that are interested.”
I’m told the asking price for O’Reilly will likely be a first-round pick and an A-level prospect.
NHL Rumors: Don’t expect any coaching changes for three Canadian teams and the Pittsburgh Penguins
Could the NHL’s expansion fee break $2 billion?
TSN: The Seattle Kraken paid a $650 million expansion fee, but that number would be much higher now. Chris Johnston noted that people thought Dreger was crazy when he threw out a $2 billion expansion pick a year ago, but recent NHL evaluations could back that up.
“There have been some assessments published by CNBC where they have found that overall team valuations have increased 15 percent over the past year to an average of $2.2 billion, meaning the average team is worth slightly more than the potential expansion costs.”
Media rights have increased the numbers. Three of the top five values are Canadian teams, with the Oilers coming in at number five, passing the Bruins.
