The Vancouver Canucks are looking to sign at least a third for Teddy Blueger
Thomas Dance of The Athletic: The Vancouver Canucks were in active trade discussions leading up to the Olympic trade freeze, but no one paid the price the Canucks wanted for Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger and David KƤmpf.
For most of January, the sellers were essentially just the Canucks, Calgary Flames and New York Rangers, but slumps in the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals could see them change direction.
Canucks center Teddy Blueger should attract some trade interest, especially if he has good Olympics with Team Latvia, where he could serve as their No. 1 center. I’ve heard the Canucks are looking for at least a third-round pick, and it could be higher at the deadline.

Four buyers and three sellers
Harman Dayal of The Athletic: Once the Olympic trading freeze is lifted, there are 12 days left before the March 6 deadline. A look at four teams that are buyers and three teams that are sellers, which may have a little more urgency than others.
The buyers
Carolina Hurricanes ā A second-line center is needed. New York Ranger and former Hurricane Vincent Trocheck could be an option.
Dallas Stars ā The Central is really tough. Tyler Seguin’s future is not yet known, so they don’t know if they will have full access to his $9.85 million. Could use a middle-six forward and a top-four right-handed defender. Don’t have a first round pick for 2026 or 2028.
Minnesota Wild ā A top-six center is their main need. Trade chips include a 2027 first-round pick, forward Charlie Stramel and defenseman David Jiricek. The inclusion of goalie Jesper Wallstedt should be for a true number 1 center and not someone like Vincent Trocheck.
Edmonton Oilers ā The Oilers could use a top-nine forward. If they land a center, they could use Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on the wing. If they get a winger, they can make RNH their 3C. Andrew Mangiapane’s contract may need to be moved to bring someone in.
The sellers
St. Louis Blues ā Get players with good running time who will interest teams if the Blues want to make it big ā Robert Thomas, Brayden Schenn, Justin Faulk, Jordan Kyrou and Jordan Binnington. Don’t expect a big sale, but they could move one or two.
Toronto Maple Leafs ā Bobby McMann could bring back two second-round picks (Kiefer Sherwood comp), and Scott Laughton has some value. Defenders Brandon Carlo (one year) and Oliver Ekman-Larsson (two years) have good value. Center Nic Roy is another option.
NHL Rumors: Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs
Calgary Flames ā The demand for top-six centers is high and interest in Nazem Kadri should be high. They shouldn’t wait to move him since he is 35 years old. Would think they are looking for a first round pick. Forward Blake Coleman (one more year for $4.9 million) and defenseman Zach Whitecloud (two more years for $2.75 million) are two other trade candidates.
