Brian Boyle: “Elliotte, what’s next for Vancouver? Is this a studs-type thing? Are these conversations with maybe even a (Brock) Boeser or would I be looking at a Conor Garland, if I were a bunch of different teams. But they seem to have a certain term. Do they want to keep these guys, or are they thinking, ‘Hey, maybe it’s time to just take the bait with everyone.’ Have you heard what might happen next after this Quinn Hughes thing? Are we just going to burn it all down?

Friedman: “Or you know what? Brian, I think it’s similar to the Rangers. I think they’ll listen to just about anything. You know, (Elias) Pettersson has a no-move clause, and I think if you wanted to trade him, you’d have to convince him that it would be worth it. You know, I looked into this late last week. The word I got was that everyone had heard that he didn’t want to swing at this point, or wasn’t willing to swing at this point.

But I mean, you never know when you’re going to get something that you want to take to him and say, ‘Hey, we want to do this. Does the situation appeal to you at all?’ You never know what a player can say. Although I heard he wasn’t inclined to wave at the moment.

I think Garland’s is really interesting. Because first of all I think he’s a very good player. I think, like you said, he can help someone. The other thing for the Canucks here is that Garland takes control of the situation on July 1 and gets a clause. He doesn’t have it now.

So maybe it won’t happen now. Maybe it’s closer to a design thing. But I’m curious if Vancouver will say this. You know, we want to do this while we still have control over the situation. I think Garland is a very good player. I think Vancouver would take it either way, keep them or trade them. But the one thing that stands out here is that they lose control on July 1st.

I don’t think Vancouver is really interested in moving many of their young players. I think they listen to their veterans, their UFAS. But I think they’re similar to the Rangers in that if you have an idea, take it to them and see how they feel.
