What could the Winnipeg Jets be looking at heading into the NHL trade deadline?
Daily confrontation (youtube): David Pagnotta on The Sheet with Jeff Marek, talking about the Winnipeg Jets and what’s in store for them heading into the trade deadline and next season.

Marek: “Okay, there’s no update on Josh Morrissey right now. We’re just waiting like everyone else. But your thoughts on, you know, get Morrissey involved or not. Thoughts on what Kevin Cheveldayoff is dealing with here.”
Pagnotta: “I think, first of all, just with respect, I mean, if, in terms of Morrissey’s status, if he’s going to be out, or if he’s going to be out for an extended period of time, I think that just solidifies Winnipeg’s position going into the trade deadline.”
NHL Rumors: Would the Philadelphia Flyers trade Owen Tippett?
Marek: “Oh yes.”
Pagnotta: “I like them, they’re already leaning in that direction anyway, in terms of selling some of their assets, whether it’s (Luke) Schenn or Logan Stanley or Tanner Pearson, or they’re going to try to get Gustav Nyquist and all that.
Free agents aside, I think this just kind of solidifies, okay, we need, this is just the icing on the cake for us this season. Let’s call it a wash. It is what it is. Hopefully it’s an anomaly for them and you focus on next season.
And I think that’s just the final nail in that coffin. If Morrissey isn’t out, I don’t really think much will change, you know, for the Jets side of things.
So they’ve already had those conversations. They will continue to have those conversations, albeit now and into March, for some of their guys. They are, for all intents and purposes, going to sell those pieces.
But the fact that they’ve been, you know, offensively has been a challenge for them outside of the first line. And that’s still something Cheveldayoff and the staff in Winnipeg want to address at some point. Whether they can make that happen before the trade deadline or not, we’ll have to wait and see.
NHL Rumors: Could Alex Newhook solve the Montreal Canadiens’ right-wing problem?
But they definitely want to bring in someone to stabilize that second line, with Cole Perfetti in place. So we’ll see what they end up doing. This could be something that happens in the summer. But either way, this is an area they feel needs to be addressed next season.”
