Gaffar: “But I want to take the conversation a little north of the border, a little bit here, regarding two teams, both in Ontario. Um, we’ll start with the Ottawa Senators and the aggressiveness of Steve Staios, if that’s going to happen.

I know we actually talked about it before the season even started that they were looking. They were looking for goals. Is that still the case, and where do you think we sit, as with the Ottawa Senators?

Pagnotta: “Yeah, they’re still watching, they’re still watching. They’ve taken a little bit of a break, I think, or at least things have calmed down.”

Gaffar: “Well, at one point they were the only team, the only Canadian team, that was in the playoffs.”

Pagnotta: “Yeah, yeah, they were, and that’s why I think Steve Staios, like you said, was looking for them, we talked about them early this year. But then, yeah, they got hot and he just said, ‘Okay, maybe we don’t want to mess with this right now.’ At least that’s the idea that was spread throughout the league.

NHL Rumors: Chicago Blackhawks and Matchmaker for Marchessault, Murphy, Chinakhov and Fleury

And in the last few weeks it started again. And of course we are in the holiday break. This doesn’t stop guys from talking and stuff, but this is another team that’s looking to add something. And wants to add some kind of second-line player. If it’s a center six, and it’s a guy who’s interchangeable, sure, but a second-line caliber player is kind of what the Ottawa Senators are looking for.

And you know, they’re a team that’s kicked the tires before, Kiefer Sherwood in Vancouver. You know, Brayden Schenn in St. Louis. These are some of the players they have been watching and looking at.”

Gaffar: “Yeah, they had interest in Brock Boeser. Before he signed in Vancouver, obviously the Ottawa Senators had interest as well. And that was, you know, before July 1. So they’ve always wanted to get into scoring and depth scoring for that team.”
