The asking price of the St. Louis Blues for Robert Thomas is astronomical, as it should be
TSN: The St. Louis Blues listen to all their core players, but Robert Thomas tops the list because he’s a No. 1 center, and the price remains “astronomical for Thomas,” according to Pierre LeBrun.
“I’m not convinced it will drop that much by Friday’s deadline because, again, the Blues don’t need to move him. As one team executive told me, is this about the Blues really getting a full picture of the market for him and then going back to the offseason for a lot of these discussions?”
That could be, but I’ll also say this: I also spoke to another team manager who was actually convinced Thomas will move before Friday’s deadline. So we’ll see.”

The latest around Robert Thomas
TSN: Darren Dreger reported Tuesday afternoon and on Insider Trading that trade talks between the Buffalo Sabers and Blues involving Robert Thomas were getting heated. They are not exactly at the finish line, but everything needed in one phone call.
“We know there’s been a lot of conversations around Thomas with Blues general manager Doug Armstrong. Some serious contenders, more tire pullers, but right now it feels like the Sabers are the frontrunners.”
Chris Johnston adds that the Blues are looking for three or four “premium assets” for Thomas. That’s why the Sabers could be the frontrunners here.
“What I can tell you with the Sabers is that they believe they’ve gotten into that range where we’re talking about a package of picks, players and prospects that comes out to about four players.”
The Sabers are also looking for a defenseman, and the Blues have several available. Another thing to consider.
NHL Rumors: New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Buffalo Sabers and the St. Louis Blues
Pierre LeBrun adds that the high asking price is likely too high for the Montreal Canadiens. The sides did talk, but the price didn’t make sense for the Canadiens side at this point – Michael Hage, David Reinbacher, plus, plus.
