The trade deadline will be interesting for the Edmonton Oilers, as well as next season

The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnston notes that the Edmonton Oilers don’t have many wingers, and those who should play on the top lines. Jack Roslovic will get a chance, but it will be interesting to see what they can do at the trade deadline, and next offseason they can take advantage of the rising cap and Connor McDavid’s team-friendly deal.

“You also look at their forward group, like, if you, if you imagine, I know (Connor) McDavid and (Leon) Draisaitl are playing together right now, but if they’re not, you know, Zach, you know, in a month, Zach Hyman will be healthy again from his wrist injury. You know, they’ve got Trent Frederic.

They don’t have that many wingers, I guess that’s what I’m getting at. For example, if you’re someone like Jack Roslovic, then there’s definitely a world where you feel like you’re getting quality minutes alongside one or both players over the course of a season, right? So you know this is quite attractive to a specific type of players. I mean, we’ll see how that turns out.

You know, Roslyn has always been kind of a middleman in the sense that you need him, his skills say he’s a top six player, but on some teams he doesn’t quite fit into your top six. But you don’t necessarily want to use them for what you’re trying to accomplish with your bottom six lines. You know, what he, what he does right there, is wrong.

So you know, it’s definitely a big start for Stan Bowman and Jeff Jackson. You know, to me, the next wave of moves is almost like, what do they do before this trade deadline? Like, I don’t expect, anything big in the next time we see each other again, injuries. Things can happen during the year that change the direction of things.

But it’s like, what are they doing to load on this deadline? And then really, next summer is when they feel the real benefits of McDavid. In short, it will be another big jump in a salary cap, and not a big jump for them, their best player, in terms of what he earns. And so that’s kind of the next shoe that we have to drop, I think, for, for them.
