Martin Necas is willing to take his time as he looks to cash in on his next contract
The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnston talks Colorado Avalanche pending UFA forward Martin Necas, and where their talks are taking place. Necas seems more willing to wait this out, and he could play himself into an even bigger contract.

“I guess Necas might be where the most intrigue is. Just because he arrived in Denver last year, obviously as part of that Mikk Rantanen trade. And so, you know, he doesn’t have the same long history with the team, which doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to stay. I’m not saying that at all, but I think it could be a different kind of negotiation.”
And he also likes to let it play out a little bit more, you know. So his agent and the Avalanche have certainly set the table for how the talks could go. For example, it doesn’t seem like it’s that active in a conversation happening around it.

And you know, very, very, very early days of the season, but you know, he’s put up some points to start the year. And you know, if he has a season where he gets 80, 90 points. I know he was, I think he was in the low 80s between the two teams last season. But if he pushes even higher in terms of his production, it might not be in his best interest to sign.
I mean, maybe he’s looking at the board around him emptying out and thinking, hey, this is a good time to absolutely maximize my earnings. So you know, I don’t, it’s not meant to be a prediction, but I could just see, I could see where the conditions of that situation are, especially if Necas, you know, has a really good season. I mean, if you’re him, it’s going to cost a lot of money to give up the opportunity to maybe be a free agent.
