Rasmus Andersson will be traded sooner or later, and will there be an extension?
The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnston when asked what he’s heard lately about Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson.

Johnston: “I mean, Anderson, it’s so funny, this has been a little bit of a back and forth at times that he might sign. You know, obviously his name has been involved pretty seriously in trade talks last year in the offseason that didn’t quite pan out.
You know, I think the Flames are getting closer to probably finding a solution there, in terms of, you know, sending him somewhere. You know, there are risks associated with the kind of man he is. I mean, he plays hard for anyone who looks closely. Like he was involved in a fight in Columbus this week. Due to the nature of his game, he blocks shots and isn’t afraid to get physically involved.

And so I think at some point, if you’re the Flames, there’s going to be a risk. And it’s not just him, but if, if you have a pending UFA, if he suffers a significant injury, I mean you may end up not getting anything. And so you know that there seems to be a situation that will come to an end sooner or later.
You know what’s interesting about Andersson: do they find a place for him where he’s willing to sign an extension and build that into the price of what they get back?
Is that so, is that a smart thing to do? It can be more complicated. You imply that you give the other teams permission to talk to the agent. They may not be able to reach the deal they want. Does that lead to a transaction?
It’s certainly a bit cleaner and easier to just trade them as UFA, but you probably won’t get as much back. So that’s something for Craig Conroy to navigate because there’s no belief that Rasmus will just sign anywhere in terms of, you know, the long term going forward.

So you know, we’ll see how that all turns out. But I think he’s definitely a player who could see a move sooner rather than later.
