The New York Rangers believe they can get more for Vincent Trocheck down the road, but the Central market could be busy this offseason
Vincent Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic: New York Rangers GM Chris Drury didn’t budge from his asking price for Vincent Trocheck, and Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin didn’t want to be discussed. Multiple sources said the asking price was unreasonably high.
The Wild weren’t the only ones interested. The Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins had some interest.
It’s believed the Wild drafted Charlie Stramel, likely a first-round pick and some other upside.
NHL news: average age, two fines and injury notes
Drury wanted someone with top-six potential, and instead of taking the best offer at the deadline, he held on to Trocheck in hopes of getting a better offer later. With the salary cap set to increase next season, and handcuffed by the CBA adjustments for this season, more teams may be able to join the bids.
There is also the risk that other centers could be offered for trade: Robert Thomas (Blues), Elias Pettersson (Canucks), Nico Hischier (Devils), Ryan O’Reilly (Predators) and perhaps Auston Matthews (Maple Leafs). It seems unlikely that Trocheck’s value will increase any further between now and the offseason. Next trade deadline the value will probably be even lower.
Alexis Lafreniere and Braden Schneider will be back on the trade block. What will veterans Adam Fox, Igor Shesterkin and Mika Zibanejad think?

Ron MacLean: “Oh, that’s the latest, now that you mention it. Carolina, (Vincent) Trocheck. That was a popular rumor.”
Friedman: “Only the price was too high.”
Ron MacLean: “And four, at four o’clock we learned about (Nazem) Kadri. Was there still a nix, a deal?”
