The Nashville Predators are scouting the Montreal Canadiens
The Fourth Period: David Pagnotta said the Nashville Predators had two scouts watching the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday and Thursday. The Canadiens have been linked to Steven Stamkos and Ryan O’Reilly. Stamkos still has two years left on his contract and a full freedom of movement clause. O’Reilly is out of trade protection and has one year left on his contract.
Will the Winnipeg Jets look for a veteran goaltender, and could some blue line changes be on the way?
Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press: (mailbag) With Connor Hellebuyck out for four to six weeks (14 to 20 games), the Winnipeg Jets could look for someone with some experience in the goaltending market. For the time being they are riding together with Eric Comrie and Thomas Milic.
NHL Rumors: The trade market is very thin right now
Defenseman Colin Miller hasn’t gotten much playing time. Luke Schenn, in Miller’s position on the third pair, struggles with his lack of foot speed and mobility. If Haydn Fleury clears the concussion protocol, would they give him a shot on the third pairing and push Schenn out of the lineup?
The Lukas Reichel experiment in Vancouver may not last long, and more changes could be on the way
Jeff Paterson of the Canucks Army: (mailbag) The Vancouver Canucks didn’t give up much for forward Lukas Reichel. It’s strange that he’s decided the experiment is over. They had him in the middle and it’s clear he’s better suited to the wing. They gave him three weeks in center, but didn’t try him on the wing for two weeks.
Think there’s a good chance that forward Conor Garland will be traded. Until his extension takes effect, he will not enjoy any trade protection. With the way he’s working, there should be plenty of interest and trade value. Pending UFA forward Kiefer Sherwood could also be moved. I’m not saying either is imminent, but they could be moved later if they fall further out of the race.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman: The Vancouver Canucks are looking to get younger and let teams know they’re willing to listen to their “experienced players.”
One executive said it was made clear to them that trading Quinn Hughes is not a priority for the Canucks at this time. Teams also don’t feel like defenseman Filip Hronek is going anywhere.
NHL Rumors: Senators, Sabers and the Kraken
Pending UFAs and one or two players still under contract may be moved. Jim Rutherford’s history shows that he is not one to wait.
