NHL rumors: Potential landing spots for Jesper Wallstedt and Marc-Andre Fleury

NHL rumors: Potential landing spots for Jesper Wallstedt and Marc-Andre Fleury

Potential landing spots for Jesper Wallstedt

Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff: The Minnesota Wild have already added defenseman Quinn Hughes, and they may not be done yet. There has been some speculation that they could be willing to move 2021 first-round pick goaltender Jesper Wallstedt. A Wild source declined to comment on whether he is available, but did not outright deny it. Who could storm Wallstedt?

The Florida Panthers and Philadelphia Flyers are said to be interested, but do they have what the Wild want and would they part with it? The Wild are looking for someone like Anton Lundell. From the Flyers, maybe Tyson Foerster, but he’s done for the season. It’s not a pre-season move for either.

Three seasonal fits.

3. New Jersey Devils – Wild GM Guerin may like Dawson Mercer, but he is more of a winger than a center. Would they move Jack Hughes? It would take a lot more than Wallstedt.

NHL Rumors: Minnesota Wild and Ottawa Senators

2. St. Louis Blues – Robert Thomas worth $8.125 million through 2031 would give the Wild cost certainty. Wallstedt would be a starting point for the talks. Would Thomas part with his NTC, and could they pull off a huge division trade?

1. Ottawa Senators – The organization could really use a solid young goaltender. Dylan Cozens, Ridly Greig and Shane Pinto might make sense for the Wild. I think they were interested in Cozens before he was traded to the Sens. Greig has primarily played winger in the NHL. Pinto is their third-line center, but has produced a bit more offense as he has been given a bigger role.

Marc-Andre Fleury back on the ice

TSN: Arpon Basu tweeted that goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was back on the ice in St. Paul on Monday. Officer Allan Walsh tweeted: “Flower training #Buzzz”

Michael Russo wrote in The Athletic late last month that Fleury would be working with the Wild during the Olympic break, much like Filip Gustavsson and Jesper Wallstedt will be at the Olympics.

NHL Rumors: Panarin, Blues, Hurricanes and the Maple Leafs

Fleury said a number of teams have asked for him to come back, but he said he probably won’t make a comeback.

If the Wild trade Wallstedt, bringing back Fleury seems like a logical choice.
