The Philadelphia Flyers are trying to quiet the noise surrounding Owen Tippett
Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast – Canada can’t refuse Connor Bedard’s episode on teams checking in Owen Tippettand that’s not the Philadelphia Flyers.
** NHLRumors.com transcription
“Owen Tippett has been a name a lot. And I’ve been looking into this a little bit, and I think the Flyers are trying to do everything they can to calm the noise around him. I think it bothers him a little bit. I think he’s definitely heard it.”
You know, I think the Flyers are trying to say, ‘Look, like this isn’t our job. And I think the Canucks asked about him. I don’t think that’s going to happen. But I’ve heard the Flyers believe there’s another level they can get Tippet to.
And also, like his contract, look at where the contracts are going, you’ll be fine with that contract. And I think the Flyers see that too.
NHL Rumors: Devils, Canucks, Oilers and the Penguins
I think they are trying to calm down the noise simply because this was not created by them. Sometimes names are mentioned because teams want to move guys. This is not the case with Tippet. So we’ll see where that goes.
Flashbacks to Patrick Roy after Jordan Binnington was pulled last week
SDPN: Chris Johnston and Julien McKenzie on St. Louis Blues goalkeeper Jordan Binningtonand the flashbacks to Patrick Roy in Montreal.
McKenzie: “Recently Jordan Binnington was questioned and had a very animated conversation with his head coach, Jim Montgomery. Making the connection because it’s goaltending and because we’re on the anniversary of Patrick Roy being pulled into that Detroit Red Wings game before he goes to the team president and says he played his last game for the Canadiens.
I’m not saying Jordan Binnington has done the same, but it’s been a rollercoaster season for Jordan Binnington.”
Johnston: “Well, I got a text from someone that night saying, did Jordan Binnington just pull a Patrick Roy? So I mean, you’re not the only person who saw that and thought that.”
NHL Rumors: Will the Edmonton Oilers make a goaltending move this season?
I understand why. Emotional, fiery man, just like Patrick Roy, but in completely different circumstances, right? The reason people are drawing the parallels is this: I mean, Jordan Binnington’s name is at least a little in the rumor mill.
I think it’s more the fact that things aren’t going well in St. Louis. There aren’t many goaltenders available for trade. It’s been a year since this one and he’s no longer a UFA.
That said, nothing broke at that point. The St. Louis Blues know and love Jordan Binnington. They know what he’s talking about. They love that fire in him. But I think it makes it clear what is going to happen here.”
