A contract extension between the Buffalo Sabers and Alex Tuch could take some time

Daily confrontation: David Pagnotta, when asked about Buffalo Sabers forward Alex Tuch being considered for a contract extension. Could he be dealt if the talks and the Sabres’ season don’t go well?

Carter Hutton: “Dave, you actually mentioned someone there. I want to pick up the thread a little bit further, you know, the Tuch conversation, right? And I, and I think about the market, and I think about the teams, like Buffalo is on the hot seat, right? You know, one of those teams that, if they’re off to a slow start, Tuch is a player that we see, you know, who’s left, especially now, you know, the Oilers a little have more power to make something happen. Is that a guy you could possibly see in Edmonton?

NHL Rumors: There are a few teams interested in Martin Necas

Pagnotta: “I think there are a lot of teams that would love to get their hands on this guy if he becomes available. Contractually, there’s nothing new to report. You know, there’s really nothing going on right now.”

Yes, they go back and forth, and they have an open line of communication, but the negotiation process is just, yeah, there’s nothing new in that regard. I don’t think it’s a bit of a concern at this point. And if I’m a Sabers fan, I don’t panic easily. And I think they will continue the lines of communication.

But to your point, the longer the season goes without a deal, and depending on how the season goes for the Sabres, it could impact the player’s decision and the team’s ultimate decision on this one. They want to keep him. He is interested in staying. He hasn’t closed the door on the Sabers at all.

But given the circumstances, given what the team is dealing with, you know, unless Kevyn Adams just wakes up and says, ‘Okay, I’m going to give you this deal,’ eight times 11 or something like that. By all accounts, this is going to take some time.

But then again, he hasn’t closed the door on Buffalo. He likes it there. It’s home. He wants to, you know, make this work, but interesting decisions, because of what you said. Where the team is located. If this team doesn’t sign them, and we already know halfway through the season, we’re focusing on 26-27 for them.

The salary cap could rise even higher than expected as NHL revenues grow

Then I think that’s where you start to have discussions. And I imagine the Oilers would be one of them. But I think a lot of teams, a lot of contending teams, like I said, would love to get their hands on a player of his caliber.”

Tyler Yaremchuk: “Yeah, and I mean, a pretty reasonable number too, and with the (audio glitch) rules being what they are now, what a potential depth (audio glitch). A guy only making $4.75 (million), it makes it a lot easier for a lot of teams to find a way to squeeze him in.”
