The New Jersey Devils could aim a little higher than adding a complementary piece
The magazine with Jeff Marek: David Pagnotta on The Sheet about the New Jersey Devils, and whether they want to make a big swing.
“And I’ve mentioned this before, Utah, Carolina, Ottawa, the Habs to some extent. The Ducks to some extent. I think we talked about it last week.
I throw New Jersey into that mix, at least from the exploratory side of things. If there is a big fish, I think it will be in there in some capacity. This is a very good team, and I think they rightly feel that the opportunity to strike is now.
NHL Rumors: New Jersey Devils and Chicago Blackhawks
So, can you get a free piece? Probably. Do you want to swing or aim a little higher? I don’t think that is possible at all.”
Would Mackenzie Weegar ever want to leave the Calgary Flames?
The magazine with Jeff Marek: David Pagnotta, curious about Caglary Flames defenseman Mackenzie Weegar. If the Flames leave the fesneman Rasmus Anderssonand/or forward Blake Coleman And Nazem Kadri.
“There are a lot of pieces they have here that will be interesting. Like for example, and this is just an example from my side, Mackenzie Weegar. Continuous, very underrated, very good talent. Completely no-trade or no-move, one of the two.”
NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senators, Drake Batherson and their defense
As far as I know there is no indication that he would even consider it at this point. But I’m curious: Anderson goes, maybe Coleman goes, maybe Kadri goes. Where does that take his thoughts? Does he want to get through the next two, three years before they become competitive again, or would he consider his options?
And again, this is just an example, but I would imagine that if a player of that caliber becomes available, you’re going to get a pretty good return, a pretty significant return for those types of pieces.
