The Montreal Canadiens won’t be making a big jump heading into the trade deadline
TSN: The Montreal Canadiens have cooled off lately, but still hold onto a wild card spot. They added center Phillip Danault earlier this year and Pierre LeBrun doesn’t feel like there’s any pressure on them to make another big addition before the deadline.
“I do think they will do a deal, but the point here is that they haven’t lost the bigger picture when it comes to opening their window this year, considering they are the youngest team in the league.”
They’re still open to hockey trades, but they won’t give up long-term assets for short-term gains. GM Kent Hughes will still be looking at the top six market.

The Detroit Red Wings have two areas they want to upgrade
TSN: According to Darren Dreger, the Detroit Red Wings are not looking for rental properties and remain patient. They are looking for a second-line center and a right-handed defenseman.
“They are looking for a central number two, a player with term, and preferably a defender with a right shot, again with term.
When looking at what Detroit might want to part with, take a look at their draft roster. They have some juicy picks that could come into play.”

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Utah Mammoth are not real buyers
TSN: Chris Johnston says the Pittsburgh Penguins and Utah Mammoth would like to make the playoffs, and currently have the opportunity to do so, but they aren’t really a real buyer.
“So Kyle Dubas is still looking for young players, but he’s not necessarily changing his approach after seeing his team sweep through Western Canada with a perfect record and put themselves in a playoff spot.
As for Utah, they have patiently built, acquiring draft picks and adding prospects to their roster. But the biggest player they want to add to their lineup here is Logan Cooley, who is getting closer to a return from injury.”
