The Minnesota Wild may have overpaid Kirill Kaprizov, but there are no regrets; it’s better than the alternative, and they already have some good deals
TSN: Pierre LeBrun, who spoke with Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin after Jack Eichel signed for $13.5 million. Guerin said every market is different, and it’s better to pay Kirill Kaprizov $17 million per season than to let him leave after the season and not be able to replace him. LeBrun adds:
“Is that overpayment? In my opinion, yes. Probably yours too, Gino. But from the Minnesota Wild perspective, it’s a market that will struggle to attract free agents come July 1st.
“They have absolutely no regrets about giving Kaprizov $17 million a year, especially when you consider that their other core guys, like Matt Boldy at $7 million, Joel Eriksson Ek at $5.25 million, Brock Faber at $8.5 million, have pretty good contracts with their other core guys.”
NHL Rumors: San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens
The latest news on Adrian Kempe, Alex Tuch and Martin Necas being considered for an extension
TSN: So Jack Eichel and Kyle recently signed contract extensions, and that deal certainly had an impact on the negotiations between Adrian Kempe and Alex Tuch, according to Pierre LeBrun.
The Los Angeles Kings and Kempe’s agent, JP Barry, are in ongoing discussions.
“What I will tell you is that I believe William Nylander’s $11.5 million per year contract has been introduced into that conversation, but I would also predict that Kyle Connor’s $12 million per year will now be part of that conversation as well.
When Kempe is done, I think we’re probably looking at $11-$12 million per year somewhere in that ballpark. We’ll see if that happens.”
NHL rumours: Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets and will stars take fewer?
Sources say nothing is imminent with Tuch and the Buffalo Sabers, but talks are good. Could see him make $10 million or more after back-to-back 36-goal seasons.
Martin Necas wants to slow down a bit to see how things go, to get comfortable after only being with the team since close to the trade deadline last year. Believe Necas will give his agent the green light to start more serious conversations at some point. thinks he will eventually re-sign with the Avs.
