NHL Rumors: Los Angeles Kings and the St. Louis Blues

Has Phillip Danault asked for a trade?

Marco D’Amico: Sources have indicated that Los Angeles Kings are moving forward Filip Danault has requested a trade, and his side is hoping something can be done before the holiday trading freeze (midnight, December 20).

The Kings are in no rush and not looking to complete a futures deal; they would like a player-for-player deal.

The Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes are among the teams that have kicked tires.

Allan Walsh: (Danault’s agent) “You never bothered to contact me.”

The St. Louis Blues don’t have any untouchables, but GM Doug Armstrong isn’t giving anyone away

Lou Korac of The Hockey News: The St. Louis Blues aren’t going to make a trade for the sake of a trade, and they’re not going to give anyone away.

“Again, I don’t want to come across as… if you’re in this position, like Wayne Gretzky I got traded,” Armstrong said. “There really are no untouchables – not on the St. Louis Blues – there are very few untouchables in the league… Sid (Crosby), Connor (McDavid), Nate (MacKinnon).

But there are a lot of other guys who, if things don’t go well, they’ll make that list longer, I’d say. Things aren’t going well, so the list can’t be the following: “No, we can never think about that.” What I want you to know is that we don’t sell .50 cents on the dollar out of anger.”

The Blues have struggled this season and teams are calling. GM Doug Armstrong wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t listen.

“Yes, just like the NHL as we know it, we work with deadlines and artificial deadlines,” Armstrong said. “We have an artificial deadline of December 19, the trading freeze. Again, I’m just using my own experiences: if you’re a high-functioning team, it gives you a reason to call a low-functioning team to set the table for when you’re actually going to do it.

So yeah, teams are starting to kick tires and starting to ask where we are, and we’re saying, ‘We’re definitely not happy with where we are right now. What are your ideas?’ If it made sense today, we would do it today, but a lot of it is, “Well, I’m not there yet, but keep me posted.” That artificial deadline will disappear on December 19 and we will set the next artificial deadline, which will probably be a little before the Olympics, and then the real deadline will come in March.”
