NHL Rumors: Does Elias Pettersson even make sense for the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks

There is some speculation surrounding Elias Pettersson and Los Angeles Kings, but does this make sense for both parties?

Daily confrontation: Irf Gaffar and David Pagnotta discuss the trade speculation of the Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings and Elias Pettersson. It may not make sense on either side.

Gaffar: “Let’s call it chatter because I don’t want to call it a report about the kings keeping an eye on things Elias Petterssonand whether that would make any sense.

I don’t think this applies to the Los Angeles Kings’ position. Maybe Elias Pettersson wants to change the scene arena, and I know that, you know he has ties to the Los Angeles area. Believe his wife is from there. But I just don’t see a situation where that happens at all. Will you?”

Pagnotta: “I don’t know what the return would be. That’s true for me…”

Gaffar: “It would start with (Quinton) Byfield, but then you still need a secondary center if you live in LA. So what are you doing?”

Pagnotta: “Right. Right, exactly. And I don’t see a scenario where the Kings would want to do that or go down that path. I would imagine (Alex) Laferriere, who is only 24, could be part of those discussions if it comes to that. But what else?”

You know, I don’t expect Vancouver to want to eat anything major, or even anything from Petey’s contract. I think LA would be open to taking the full hit, but you’re not going to give equal value or market value to Elias Pettersson if you do that now.

I think the Kings would be open to it if it’s a low return. but they also brought one of their best young prospects in (Liam) Greentree to New York to get (Artemi) Panarin. I don’t think they’re open to giving up their first-round pick, but we’ll see. I mean, if it’s a player like Elias Pettersson, who’s signed long-term, maybe they’ll change their mentality there.

But either way, from a Canucks perspective, you don’t get market value back dealing with LA. And then when he leaves, you have to deal with this guy in your division for the next six years, or whatever he has left.
