** Sabers GM Kevyn Adams was fired on Monday and Jarmo Kekalainen was named the new GM
David Pagnotta from the fourth period: Brendan Shanahan wants back in the NHL. If they’re looking for a President of Hockey Operations, could they look to Shanahan?
The Sabers are also looking to the trade market for some help moving forward. Things are status quo regarding a contract extension with forward Alex Tuch. An extension is not close.

The Edmonton Oilers must be constantly looking for upgrades
NHL Network: Elliotte Friedman on NHL Now on the Edmonton Oilers not done yet.
Mike Rupp: “It feels like it’s all your eggs in one basket here. But to your point that you just said you think more needs to be done, at the target position, or at least kicking the tires in the next month or two.”
Friedman: “Well, I think this reminds us, Michael, that the Edmonton Oilers have a window, especially as long as they have (Connor) McDavid and (Leon) Draisaitl, right? And McDavid gave them an opportunity earlier this year when he extended the deal for two years.
I think there was a time when the Oilers hoped it would last longer. And so what McDavid did was at least say, ‘Hey, I’m here, and I want to win here, and I want to win with this group of players, but there’s only a finite window right now.’
So I guess if you’re the Edmonton Oilers guys, you’re saying we should constantly try to upgrade. We must constantly look at what our weaknesses are and how can we improve ourselves?

And so I think that’s the idea that Edmonton is at some point in some kind of stasis, where they say, ‘This is our team and we’re going to go with it.’ I don’t think you can ever assume that until we reach a trade deadline.
