$16 million per year for Makar, and what a Rangers package for Quinn might entail
Dan Rosen of NHL.com: (mailbag) Think a fair amount for Cale Makar on a long-term contract extension with the Colarado Avalanche would be $16 million per season. That would bring an eight-year deal to a total of $128 million.
Would assume, without information from anyone associated with the New York Rangers, that the Rangers would have taken Alexis Lafreniere and Braden Schneider and that a first-round pick would have been part of their offer to the Vancouver Canucks for Quinn Hughes. The Wild’s roster was younger and the Rangers don’t have Zeev Buium.

“But you know, if you look at Calgary, I think they’ve been saying all year, ‘we’re not going to tear it down.’ For starters, they don’t think this will work if Wolf is Wolf.
But you know what, they’re not going to tear it down, but they’re going to let this year play out. They’re not going to implement short-term fixes, and they’re going to try to make the best choice possible.
I think what’s going on with Vancouver, Rick, I think they’re going to do the same thing. I don’t think they will come up with solutions in the short term.
Like comp, (David) Kampf is different. Like going out there and getting him to close a hole. But they are not going to implement short-term solutions. Any bad short-term moves. Let them play this year. They’re going to see what they get and tackle it all again after the season.
NHL Rumors: Quinn Hughes is open to staying in Minnesota
But I don’t think they started using the word when Hughes was here, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that that word is showing up now that Hughes has been traded.”
