Artemi Panarin has made at least one $40 million offer

TSN: The New York Rangers are still trying to find a new home for Artemi Panarin before 3:00 PM ET today, but it’s unclear if that will happen. There is interest and Panarin’s agent continues to talk to teams, according to Chris Johnston.

“You know, a big part of getting this deal done is agreeing to a contract extension. I think there are several teams willing to go there. I’ve heard at least one team has put $40 million on the table for Panarin, but until he signals to the Rangers that he’s found the right situation for himself can we move forward. So we’ll see if they can get that done before Wednesday.”

High prices for the top players of the St. Louis Blues

TSN: St. Louis Blue General Manager Doug Armstrong has set high prices for his players heading into the Olympic trade freeze, according to Darren Dreger. Some interested teams are also dealing with their own salary cap situation.

NHL Rumors: Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames and the Dallas Stars

“We’re talking about high-end guys like (Colton) Parayko and (Justin) Faulk and (Jordan) Kyrou and (Brayden) Schenn and (Robert) Thomas and Jordan Binnington. All the pieces in the game, some clearly more complicated than others. So there is value in that group of players.”

Things could be quiet ahead of the 3 p.m. trading freeze… The Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs have been busy

TSN: Pierre LeBrun spoke to 15 teams on Tuesday and the majority of them expected today to be quiet heading into the trading freeze. A few teams said they were interested in doing something, but the majority feel they need more time. Some teams’ salary cap position limits what they can do now. One GM noted that even though they won’t be able to make trades during the break, conversations won’t stop.

“I will say that Carolina is a team to watch. The Hurricanes would love to make some action before the trade freeze. They are ready and have the flexibility to do it, but they need to find a team where it fits.”

NHL Rumors: How aggressive will the Buffalo Sabers be at the deadline?

And the Maple Leafs have been pretty busy in terms of chatter in recent days, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything will happen when the trade freeze comes.
